Re: Aquilani

Everyone's disappointed about Alonso leaving, that's a given - but Aquilani is a fantastic footballer when fully fit and I think he'll dampen the despair when we first see him on the pitch.

Although I'd love to see Alonso stay with us, I have no complaints about his replacement, nor the fee paid. Credit to club for lining up a decent replacement very quickly.

if we can get rid of doseena i still can see us signing silva.
Me too.
Silva is the player we have been most consistently linked with this summer. I've lost count of hopw many 'He's signed' texts ive had.
And I'd be made up.

But I'd still be concerned we haven't bought a pacy alternative to Torres.

Re: Aquilani

I'm suddenly very excited about Aquilani, I can't say why exactly as I don't know a great deal about him.

I think I'm excited at the prospect of the CM Summer Drama being drawn to a end.

I hope so. If not Silva, then someone fast and skilful who can play that LW role.

Agree with Squiggles - £15m seems a good fee for Aquilani, and I'm suddenly much more optimistic about our season.

I think he is referring to Aquilani - and my answer to that is, I am not sure!

I watched the game Roma played against Blackburn about a few weeks ago (16th July) and he did not feature.

Now I'm not sure if this is because of injury, or because negotiations have been taking place for a while now and Roma have chosen not to play him too much because of a deal being struck.

Re: Aquilani

I just want to get this out of the way right now.

Aquilani's eyes are really close together.

At least he looks Italian though and isn't fat. That's a big plus already.

Re: Aquilani

This taken from Corriere della Sera - Rome Edition.

In English:

Liverpool offer of 18M Euro accepted. Agreement with the player for a five-year contract to 4 million per season. Roma could milk a couple a few more million into the transfer fee, but highly unlikely - it is not at the heart of the negotiations.

Re: Aquilani

Hmmm. The guy seems talented but with all these Roma players & officials coming out and saying how great he'd be for us, I do wonder if they're just selling us a broken down ferrari.
Surely if he was so great they'd fight harder to keep him? He's a Roman, right? So it's all the more suspicious that they seem to be ushering out the door so quickly.
Maybe i'm just being paranoid but i can't help but feel we're being led down the garden path here. Hope i'm wrong.

Who would you rather have... De Rossi or Aquailani? And why?
It depends.

De Rossi is fit more often than not - Aquilani has not had the best of runs with injury lately.

I'd say ......... Aquilani.

The skills he has is something that our side needs - he has skills that can help us thrive in attack, offer us something different.

Gerrard has the measure with long range passing, Aquilani has the measure with intricate skills - working in tight spaces around the box.

De Rossi - whilst skillful also - is more of a physical player, a tackler - and I think we have that covered with the likes of Mascherano. One thing I like about De Rossi is that he is a direct player, whereas Aquilani has a more measured approach. The one major problem I have with De Rossi is his temperament in big games. He tends to get too pumped and is prone to getting red cards.

Signing Aquilani, will allow us to keep Gerrard playing just off Torres - where he is thriving.

Had we kept Alonso and it was instead Mascherano going to Barcelona this summer ... then I'd take De Rossi over Aquilani.

The last thing Roma want is to sell a player like Aquilani - as was the case with Torres at Atleti, Aquilani is the blood of the club - the player to take over from Totti.

But just like with Torres and Atleti, Roma desperately need big money to rebuild a declining Roma side - partly due to shit signings like David Pizzaro, Esposito, Chevanton, Nonda and Jeremy Menez (not a shit player, just Roma isn't the club for him).

And given the emergence of Sampdoria, Genoa, Fiorentina, Napoli and Udinese ... Roma are going to be under massive threat for a Champions League spot.

I'd be after De Rossi if Mascherano was leaving, but not as an Alonso replacement.
yeah same for me. Aquilani is the better fit.

Re: Aquilani

I initially read that as 'he's better fit', as in you think he's fitter than De Rossi. And that your grammar is really bad.
