Quiffing here but De Rossi says it would be good for the player:

De Rossi believes it would be a good move for his team-mate but believes the Giallorossi would regret it.

"I don't know the details and I don't know if the deal is real," he added. "If it's as it's written in the papers, we will lose a great player.

"His many injuries have maybe meant that he's been forgotten about a bit, but I am sure that if he leaves we will regret it.

"He's a footballer with exceptional skill and above all he grew up in Roma's academy and has a love for this shirt that you cannot buy.

"But if you think about his career I think it would be a good opportunity, he would grow a lot by being close to the best midfielder in the world - Steven Gerrard."

Smoke and Mirrors. De Rossi to join Liverpool!

Re: Aquilani

I love De Rossi, he's a proper bloke and a proper footballer. Aquilani is a good player but its hard to look beyond his injury record. On paper, both are immense. On English grass, who knows?

Didn't Oncy put that one to bed. A serious knee injury (can happen to anyone) and recent ankle problem - rather than a string of Kewell type injuries.

Re: Aquilani

This one will make you happy Andy;
According to reports in Italy, we have a deal agreed with Roma. If Alonso is sold, Aquilani will join us, for around 18 mill.

Quality player but 60 odd games in 5 season.. dear me.. it looks like it'll be Lucas and Mascher in the middle then, with this guy taking up Kewell's place on the injury table.

As has been mentioned, his injuries have been unfortunate accidents, rather than recurring muscle strains. It's worrying, but we shouldn't put too much emphasis on it.

Re: Aquilani

The Reds are reportedly interested in signing Aquilani, with Xabi Alonso seemingly set to leave Anfield for Real Madrid after submitting a transfer request earlier in the week.

De Rossi is aware of the rumours and fears a switch could go ahead that would leave Roma with a weakened midfield.

However, De Rossi understands why his team-mate might be tempted to go to Liverpool and feels he would be able to improve at Anfield.

"I don't know the details and I don't know if the deal is real," said De Rossi.

Liverpool Sign Roma Ace Alberto Aquilani - Report
The latest reports from Spain claim the midfielder has signed for the Reds, but news emerging from Italy is more cautious in tone...

3 Aug 2009 12:04:30

Liverpool have signed Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani, according to the latest reports from Spain.

Marca claims Roma have accepted an €18million bid for the Italian midfielder. Reds manager Rafael Benitez is said to be keen on the Italian.

The report suggests the Spanish coach has moved in quickly in an attempt to have an alternative to Xabi Alonso. Voices in Spain claim Alonso is on the verge of joining Real Madrid, and it appears Liverpool have wasted no time in signing his replacement.

It is said Liverpool are still trying to negotiate a deal with Real Madrid for Alonso. According to Marca, the Reds want nothing less than €35m for the Spanish international.

Sky Sport Italia are speculating that Aquilani has agreed to a four year deal worth €4m per season with the Reds, but the move is hinging on Alonso's passage to the Bernabeu.

Despite the reports in Spain, there has been no official confirmation from Roma regarding the news that Aquilani has signed for the Anfield-based club.

Re: Aquilani

never seen or heard of the guy, just for perspective;
if xabi is a perfect 10 (out of 10) what score would aqualad have in comparison?

Re: Aquilani

Hang on.. just for perspective Spider-neil,

If Gerrard was a 10 out of 10, how would you rate Xabi?

Gerrards match winning ability makes a massive difference.

Re: Aquilani

i'm not in the least bit excited by signing a nobody from italy. he's hardly played 10 games a season and will get battered here.

dare i say this lad will make lucas look good?

ok, i'm refusing to get excited by selling one of the best midfielders in the world and replacing him with an injury prone, unproven lad from a very slow league. i really hope he hit the ground running and doesn't trip over a blade of grass resulting in a 6 month injury.

really hope rafa knows what he's doing here

Re: Aquilani

Purslow is quoted in saying that a lot of the quotes in the media are untrue, and that the meeting yesterday was arranged by Benitez.
Nothing is agreed yet, and I'm guessing we're still 5-10 million apart.

I have to say I really like this Purslow, seems to be a great addition to our club.

Re: Aquilani

I am excited with the prospect of signing Aquilani.

Been watching him for almost a decade now, since his time in the junior Italian national teams with the likes of Alberto Gilardino, Guiseppe Sculli, Gaetano D'Agostino, & Marco Amelia.

Injuries is the only concern I have with him. I hope we can sort it out if we sign him.
