I don't think he wants to come here...
I agree with this one. He's a proper Roman.
and Torres was 'proper' Atleti
It is absolutely not the same. Romans playing for Roma is almost a nationalistic thing, they hate the northern italian clubs, media, bias and see Rome as their country. Torres was just a b and b atleti player.
I'm not sure what that term means but ok ... How exactly their 'nationalistic' thing in Italy would affect moving to Liverpool (if Roma were in fact looking to sell, and he was aware), I don't know ...

I guess it depends on the people as my Italian friend here, born and bred in Roma (and happily shouts all the 'anti Milan' chants they have around me), didn't display what you're saying ...
Think it means exacly what you've said ' born and bred'.

Or 'bed and breakfast' ;D
Or 'bread and butter'

AS Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani has agreed terms on a move to Liverpool, according to reports in the Italian press.
Il Messaggero claim that the 25-year-old has agreed a five-year contract in principle, worth €4 million-per-season.

The move is subject to Xabi Alonso going ot Real Madrid and Liverpool are yet to make a formal approach to the Serie A club.
So we've agreed personal terms but not a fee? Hmm. I just worry about a Simao-type situation here, where the fans protest and the club raises the fee as Aquilani's sitting on the plane to come over.

Re: Aquilani

Having watched the youtube clip I know I've seen him play a few times before, but I can't really remember taking much notice of him.

I hope Oncy's assessment of him is accurate. If we sign him and he's crap, I'm coming for you Herr Onceared.

Re: Aquilani

Oncy's assessment is pretty much spot on.

He's a lovely, lovely footballer and an ideal replacement for Alonso - but of course there are doubts with him too. There's good reason that Roma fans love him so much despite his injuries.

Re: Aquilani

I know knothing of the player, but the big, big concern is his injury record.

To put it into perspective, since his debut in 2003 he's started less games than Michael Owen or Harry Kewell.

The position we require him to fill is too important to be filled by a player with injury issues.

No lose situation for Oncy eh?

I'd rather we went for De Rossi if we're going knocking Roma's door.
De Rossi. He is more a Mascher, but not as good. He also tends to play it ugly at times... A true Roman though. You could never question his loyalty.
He had one bad knee injury and currently has a recurring ankle injury that surgery should now have repaired. He is not a Kewell/owen with niggle after niggle. Yes its a risk but his injury record isnt THAT bad. Think Cisse not Redknapp.

That's somewhat reassuring. Kind of.

So he's more likely to snap a leg than have recurring muscle tears?? 🙂

Re: Aquilani

He's less likely to have repercussions.

I'd be equally concerned about Torres, TBH.
He's a terrific passer but not deep lying like Alonso. He plays over the halfway line and looks for yossi like slid balls. He has a rocket shot for one so slight and has been said he has excellent close control and dribbling skills.
He isnt the type of player to drop 60 yard sprayed passes to feet he prefers to be involved in the play than orchestrating it.
He doesnt break into the box but is mostly to be found round the edge of it.
He plays a bit like Lampard but slightly more withdrawn.
Actually Fabregas is probably quite close in terms of how he plays.
He wont be bullied despite his frame but he isnt a ballwinner.
that read like a question from Henry Kelly's Going for Gold.

Dzeko?

Javi Martinez, Zeizinho, Dzeko, Aquilani.
We'll fucking knock em of their perch!

Fucking ace, I finally embedded a film clip.

*cums a little*

Anyway, he looks pretty good from a 4 minute video of his 8 year career...I likey a lot!

IF he is over his injuries then he looks worth a punt, plus we have good luck with the Italians. Appears more of a direct replacement for Stevie, but why should we go like for like? Having a genuine goal thread from central midfield (assuming you class Stevie as a second striker) is paramount, and will free up markers from the other guys.

Herr Noncy...can he tackle? If so then he could be a great player for us - we need more goals from different sources. We either go for a player like this, or a second striker and drop Gerrard back. I think everyone agrees that Torres pulling off Gerrard is a great sight...

(P.S. Major disclaimer: All this is written on the fact that I had never seen him before, or even heard of him until a few weeks ago. Bar this, the 3.47 minutes of him look ace).

Of course, name one who hasn't been a wonderful success?

Dossena for example if fucking ace. Madrid AND the Mancs, need I say more. I rue the day that he is sold, he is a much better option than Aurelio or Insua.
