What gives ?

I'm starting to get a teensy bit fed up with him looking heavy and slow.

Totally made up for the win, but, Andy, seriously, sort it out !

yeah, my concern is growing. I like him and hope he sorts it out A.S.A.P

I ws never in the 'Carroll is a great signing' camp nor was I completely against him but :

Pros
Dominates the air at both ends of the pitch
Helluva shot (when on target)
Ensures opposing teams CBs are pre-occupied and stay back.

Cons
Can't pass to save his life
Is the anti-thesis of 'pass n move'
Encourages his team-mates to just hit it long / cross at every opportunity - affecting the mind-set of the whole team

If he scores 20 goals this season and improves then I'll accept I made a mistake however IMO we have taken a step back from the team that played gorgeous pass n move and attacked in waves for the second half of last season (when he didn't play).

i'd honestly take 20 mill for him right now, and i fucking hate saying that. i thought he was gonna be great but he's deffo not. he ruins our play.

Thought he looked slimmer today but then again black is meant to be slimming.

He needs decent delivery to hurt the opposition, but I would let him sit it out for next game.

It's all about deliveries. Carroll isn't going to create chances by himself. He really needs to be provided with chances.
He's not scoring but he's working his socks off.
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

PS I think he'll do better in a 4-4-2

Two games into the season and look at everyone jumping on his back but then sucking his cock when he scores.

He will come good, he is good, we have a new team pretty much everyone is getting use to the way we play and everything so get off his back and stop being shit supporters.

If he scored the header szcency saved, everyone would've been going on about how he is the best thing since sliced bread

Ponderous, shocking first touch, poor link up play, little awareness, and outmuscled time and time again. Apart from that, he was ace.

Needs benched.

Part of the problem today was Vermaelen, who'll make more than a few strikers look slow and ponderous this season if he continues in this vein.

Carroll was the lazy outlet for teammates when they wanted to move the ball upfield quickly, and it's hard to keep it when a beast like Vermaelen is constantly on your back.

Looks completely different from his performance with the barcodes, maybe he just need more time to gel with the other players.

i know there's no point crying over spilt milk and all, but still: £35m. Jesus Fucking Christ.

it's surreal that we paid that for him.

There was no one to follow up on his knock-down though, he was all by himself in the penalty box most of the time. Surely we can do better?

You give Modo a good name.

I think some people are far too quick to pass judgement on Carroll. Tall players always look ungainly, it's a fact of life. He has had a couple of central defenders play exceptionally well against him in our first two matches but this will not always happen.

Yea, it's possible part of the problem is that the Carroll / Kuyt partnership isn't ideal.
That kinda remind me of the Crouch/Voronin partnership, yikes!

A bit harsh on Carroll I thought, he put himself about, worried the Arsenal back line and almost scored. That said I've always maintained that my first choice strike force would be Suarez and Kuyt with Carroll as a plan B.
I agree with that Portly. I think it is way too early to be writing off Carroll who I think had the potential to be a monster for us.
He hasn't set the world on fire for sure but I cant help think that a lot of the problem is the fact that he cost £35m and posters have expectations based on that fee.
While I also think his transfer fee was excesive I think we were paying for the potential as much as the player we have today.

I'm not concerned about his ability.

It's his continuing lack of fitness that's bugging me.

I don't recall him looking like this a year ago, for Newcastle.

And, he needs to get shot of that fucking ponytail !

Portly / The Count.

I think for most people here who are showing negativity (me included) it's not what he can do that matters, it's what he can't (especially passing and control) and how that affects a lot of our play / breakdowns in the opposing final 1/4. It's disheartening to see us progress so much in the second half of last season and now to see that we have taken a big step backwards in regard to pass'n' move.
