Are Brighton the new Southampton then?

Are they set to gradually sell off their talent leaving the overall pool slightly worse off each time they sell and replace. Eventually getting to the point in 7 years time where we can put together an awesome XI they could’ve had who are now scattered across the top teams in Europe.
Why are people surprised at this though? Though don't have the money to compete on a regular basis with those teams with real money so it is sound financial sense that they have to sell their best players each season.

We've seen this from numerous clubs over the years. Survival in the PL is of far more importance than qualifying for Europe or even cup glory. Mid-table for 15 years is a very worthy target for clubs of this ilk.

I’m not surprised I’m just pointing out that this could be the peak before the slow decline of a selling club kicks in now that all the big clubs eyes are on their players. The only wildcard is Tony bloom and his stats company / big brain and whether they can keep this level of performance whilst selling off the stars.

It's a great business model that lets you slowly build up. Who's to say one season they don't strike it lucky and have a Leicester style season and won the league?

FSG are fucking dicks. They held off buying anyone which didn't just result in a shit squad, all the brains got bored and left too. Now everything costs double and we've got noone steering anything. The thing is, they don't give a fuck, not like us. They're just looking at this thing that's worth at least 10x what they paid for it, probably think about it for a few minutes a month before a group board meeting on a zoom call.

That’s how it feels for sure. Doesn’t look like it’s gonna get fixed either.

Not to mention that even if they weren't in the business of deliberately signing future superstars to sell on, they'd still get their very best players stolen like every other club in this league. Modric, Suarez, Grealish, Kante, Mahrez, VVd, Mane, Torres, Van Persie, Rooney, Bale. Brighton are realistic, and at least they already know where the next guy is coming from.

It's a lot better than the "Loan players from Jorge Mendes" model

I hope they can. As my father's hometown I have a soft spot for them!

Here we go....

Happened to see this and thought, if they sell Loftus-Cheek and Gallagher (perhaps Mount too) + considering Kante's injury woes, it might be reasonable for them to go for central midfield reinforcements?

If they end up signing Mac Allister and Mount signs a new contract, Chukwuemeka would be worth a punt at 10-20 million as the third midfielder. Was rated very highly at Villa and I think we were linked to him before he moved to Chelsea.

Here we go....

The only way they'll attract him is if they pay stupid wages....
Not sure how Chelsea will buy when they know have to sell first or is buy now and sell more players later? They will be low balled, I can see Turkish clubs coming in offering £5m for Hudson Odoi... Italian clubs asking to let them have Mount on loan for the season etc m

Yeah, but he signed a 6 yrs contract, cost them £20m and is on high wages (apparently £100k/wk) so I think he'll probably be loaned out next season.

According to the Athletic Ali Mac wants CL football... Personally that puts me off the player, he should know our pedigree 3XCL finalists in 5 years.

So no Jude or Rice. We can't afford.
No Caicedo. He twerks for Utd Chelsea & Arsenal.
No Macall - He wants CL
No Gravenburch - Bayern have told us to do one
No Barella Kudus Kokcu Baumgartner Locatelli Tonali because they play in Italy or because we only looking at Prem players.

Guess that leaves JWP, Mount & Gallagher.

Klopp sounded an awful lot more optimistic than you! Maybe we shouldn't believe everything we read.

Mount will be staying at Chelsea. Pochettino's not going to let him leave.

Think it really comes down to their financial issues. No Europe, glaring wholes in the squad, and a potential ffp issue; poch might not have a choice

So you're telling me there's a chance Froggy?

How do you know he isn't using our recent run of form to use that optimism from?

How do you know he's not secretly thinking "Jones and Trent you are the ones, Bradley/Ramsey you are like new signings."

Because my brain isn't constantly looking for negatives that contradict him 😉

We've had reassurances from Henry that Klopp will be backed, and Klopp has said recruitment has started. I was pissed off in Jan, and now I am more confident Klopp will be allowed to buy... it might not transfers we want but Klopp/pep usually gets the transfers right even Nunez

They do have a number of problems to solve, so that's certainly possible, but Pochettino will have wanted some assurances before signing a contract and the drumbeat seems to be that Mount might be one of them. Guess we'll soon find out.

Oh yeah I'm defo reassured now that John's given his "word" and "blessing", yeah.

Klopp has said recruitment has started has he? He shouldn't need to say that. Recruitment get paid to work off their own back...they should know when to start, it's a year round long job not something you get up for for a few months a year and then nock off to sleep.

I'll reserve further judgement until the signings are confirmed.
