So Mac Allister would compete with Curtis & Thiago in the left sided CM role.

Surely this means it’s him or Mount?

If Gravenberch is the other midfielder - then that would leave him, Harvey & Hendo for the right sided CM.

Which side does Thuram operate on?

I’d be happy with signing Timber to compete with Fabs & Badgertits for the DM role.

Chuck in another CB to replace Matip - and that’s our 4 signings - who was that freebie?

Despite rating Mount reasonably highly I'd sooner sign MacAllister anyway, but by all accounts Pochettino likes Mount and will prolly want to keep him.

If we are (as IMO we should be) on the hunt for another CB I'd like to see us go after Gvardiol, but I don't know if the funds will stretch to what he's likely to cost.

The thing that’s fucking annoying about Mac Allister is he was in the final year of his contract - he only signed an extension in October.

Why the fuck we didn’t make a move in the summer - or at least made it known we were interested - I’ll never know.

All it needed was a £20m bid when he was going into his last year, and at the very least the seeds would be sewn for a transfer and he might not have signed a new deal.

We had the money, we could afford to offer him a good wage.

This is why I start to think Ward was the problem.

@dmishra was promoting Mac Allister and the fact that he was in the final year of his contract last summer.

He obviously knew that clubs were after him. He's not blind. The new contract was a favour to Brighton ensuring they got one more year to develop replacements, into Europe for the first time, and a good fee. And in return he got to be first choice in an excellent team in a World Cup year, got his profile boosted and a promise from Brighton that he could leave as long as his Release Clause was met. Sounds like a decent thing to do for your team / club and makes me think a lot better of him tbh.

He could have been a dick and fuck off for free and get a mega signing on fee and fuckyou wages, but he didn't. That's the kind of guy I want at my club.

I get that - but there is no release clause, apparently, I’m sure there was an agreement that Brighton would let him go if a suitable offer came in - but watch them fleece the fuck out of us.

Fair play to Brighton.

The point was more - why didn’t we at least test the waters - good young player around the age of 23, midfielder, Premier League experience, technically good and going into the final year of his contract is exactly the sort of player we should have been busting a gut to sign.

Instead we signed Arthur on loan.

That double pivot would mean a formation change.
I doubt that is happening. A 4231 would not be likely, even if it might suit Nunez for instance.

Not necessarily, it'd still be a 433 but a minor tweak like we had with Fab Hendo Gini......Fab and Gini at times were a double pivot with Hendo as the #8....other times it'd be Fab and Hendo as the double pivot with Gini as #8.

Can see the same here.

Inverting the triangle in midfield then. Would that not conflict with the false 9?
Or is Gakpo going wide and Nunez up top? I think that repositioning messes up our press from the front.

Not necessarily, not how I'm imaging anyway.

Gakpo would still be able to find pockets between the lines but he wouldn't need to come as deep as Firmino used to at times.

You have to think we'll have 65-70% possession in most games with the majority of the 90mins being played in the oppositions half so whether it's 2 #6s and 1 #8 or vice versa in midfield wouldn't change much as we'll be playing so high up.

The clause that’s not a clause but works like a clause beclause Brighton are smart
