Agger don't don't don't

Unless he himself were agitating for the move, I'd take one heck of a lot of persuading to let Agger go. Not only would he be hard to replace, I'd also be apprehensive about the message we'd be sending to current and future players (and indeed the game more widely) about becoming a selling club.

Exactly.

We have already become a selling club. Selling Agger doesn't make any difference. We've sold Alonso, Mascher, Torres, Arbeloa, Yossi and Meireles in last three years.
But if someone offers you a 20M of 28 year old player who has never managed to play a full season without injuries, it is a good offer and we should consider it.

Of course it makes a difference, you've got to stop the trend somewhere and rebuild your rep. It's pointless saying, 'well we've sold players already, so what difference does it make?", you continue to be easy fodder for the big clubs. It's time we started acting like a big club again and recreated that mindset. I agree there are some instances where it makes financial sense, but for the most part we should be telling clubs to do one.

According to the latest reports Citeh have upped their bid to £21M and will offer him a staggering £100.000/week.

The salaries in football are insane.

Quite. The Mancs are cunts, end of. Go on Red Cafe and have a look at the stuff they posted when we played in Juve the year won the CL.

Our record of replacing players has been appaling, so unless Rodgers has an ace up his sleeve, keep him

If that offer is true i'd take it.

If we used the money well, we'd be a stronger side for it.

Our track record with 'using money well' is about as bad as you get though.

I dont want to sell our best players & hope we get as good in for less, cos we usually just piss it away.

Yup ... I don't think it's worth breaking up Agger+Skrtel ... It was one of our few bright spots last year, and we really really need to ensure the team is as strong as possible this year to give us a chance of 4th place ... Highly unlikely but still.

Barca are in for him - I'm told.
That has been quite evident for some time yeah, we have even seen Masher praise him good in the medias over the past weeks.

The latest reports are saying that Barca are finding it difficult to meet our valuation which should lie somewhere around the £25M mark. They've turned their attention to Agger as Bilbao are asking for like £40M for Martinez.

Now I am asking you directly mate as no-one else has seemed too eager to answer this.

Whom do you want us to replace Agger with, using all that money? Lsst Season posters on here were all for Scott Dann and Gary Cahill but I guess/hope that tune has changed at least.

£25 mill.is the least I'd accept for Agger from that lot. If they quibble about it I'd raise the fee to £30 mill.

I was never convinced by Dann, but if Cahill were available now he'd be one player I'd be willing to consider.

Fair enough mate, and even though I guess he's not even in the frame playing for the Chavs now, I wouldn't really consider him either. I am not convinced with him at all, as I think he's making the most amateurish errors at times.

He certainly can play though, but I'd believe we'd be worse off swapping Cahill with Agger.

Cahill went to Chelsea for 7m
If someone offered me Cahill and 14m for Agger I would fucking rip their arm off.

Definitely not correct Raf. I've lived in Manchester for 20 years and City fans & Liverpool fans get along fine. Our shared hatred of the Scum bonds us to a certain extent.

Ditto. I've even been to City matches, and vice versa with a good friend of mine. Recently had a client and his wife over here (Shanghai) on business - they were obviously Mancs and they picked up my accent was from the NW (only very slight now but locals will still get it) .. awkward silence, so err which team do you support ?

Citeh, Liverpool ... YES!! We both hate United with a passion. Closed the deal after an hour talking only football 🙂

So he'd be a lot more expensive than say £7M perhaps?
I dont see how that has anything at all to do with what i said.
Your post said that people were talking about Cahill as an alternative, as if it was a bad idea. Im saying he looks like a very good CB and improving and cost 7m. So given......

Ah fuck this who cares.

Cahill isn't really an alternative, as Chelsea bought him last Season. I wasn't asking whom posters believe are as good or better than Agger but whom they'd want us to buy instead should we sell.

Thiago Silva, Vidic, Kompany etc. aren't really alternatives either, why I am curious to know whom posters believe would not only be available but also capable of taking over from Agger? Or would they spend the money elsewhere believing we had capble cover in the squad?

I dont care K.

I can see the arguments for keeping him mate, and they're all valid ones.

I think he's a top draw CB, but imo at 28 and taking into account his injury record, £20mil would be too good to refuse. We've signed Borini and look likely to be adding Allen to our squad for a similar amount of money, if by selling Agger it allows us to add 2 more players of this quality, i think it will be a job well done.

I really wouldn't know mate, but even in the worst case scenario (we didn't replace him), we'd still have Coates, Carra and Kelly to pick from to play alongside Skrtel (would that really be all that bad?).

I'd be worried that we'd even achieve to hold on to our 8th place if that was the scenario. So yeah, imo, really, really bad idea.

And I don't for one minute believe Rodgers would cash in on Agger (or Skrtel for that matter) without buying a new player that somehow complements the one he kept. Everything else would be extremely risky.

Well i'm sure that if he goes we'll sign another CB anyway mate, I just think with the money being mentioned we'd be better off for it.

*Disclaimer*

If we don't spunk it on shite.
