A very serious Mata

It's imperative we finish in the top 4 and they don't. We know exactly how difficult to get back into it once you've dropped off.

I want them to go through that. Watch as their current stars fade away, and struggle to replace them. Miss out on their first-choice targets for lack of CL football, and make desperate expensive signings. See the Europa League draw the joy out of their lives on Thursday nights. Battle for fourth every year, and miss out by 6 points.

Rinse and repeat.

There are a number of reasons not to like this transfer from a Liverpool point of view...

I read somewhere the other day that Florentino Perez said that the most expensive transfers were actually the cheapest... he was refering to 80M for Ronaldo but the point stands.

Aspas, Illori, Coates, Allen,Borini, that young spanish lad we signed whose name I cant even remember....

Those guys are fucking expensive. 8 to10M kinda players who bring basically fucking nothing unless you get lucky vs 40M on a player you already know is top class. It's only moneyball if it fucking works...

We SHOULD be all over this transfer like a fat girl on cake, he cant play for the Mancs in the champs league this season anyway and we are currently in driving seat for next seasons CL...

But nah.... lets just spunk 12M on some Egyptian lad and hope for the youtubing best...

Yeah I think we have a youth/reserve setup that is good enough to be supplying the fringe, or possibly even a regular first team player or two now and we'll see the benefits in the coming seasons. So the bulk of the transfer budget should ideally be assigned for players that will vastly improve the first team.

Even if they sign Mata, who is a fantastic footballer, its not really dealing with what they need. Their central midfield is shockingly poor. Its like Gary Neville said yesterday either Utd will have to adapt or Mata will if its going to work.

All this talk of us going for Mata is also a bit far fetched, as I dont think Mourinho would sell to us.
And it doesnt make sense to strenghten Utd. If its because of this season then thats incredibly short sighted but thats Mourinho for you.

While it would be disappointing, he is certainly not what they need. Like us, they need a big, strong midfielder to break up and link play.
Plus, Mata will be playing in Kagawa and possibly Rooney's best position so the potential issues that causes pleases me.
Totally agree, I hope they do sign Mata (as long as they pay top dollar i.e. £35m) because that will; be £60m spent (also Fellaini £26m) without really addressing their CM weakness. Much better they get Mata for £35m than someone like Pogba for £40m.

With £250m off the share price and the possibility they might miss out on Champions League money next season this Mata signing could be the last BIG signing they make for a while.

Why would the share price affect their transfers ?
The Glazer's have been hit in the pocket (by the share value) for the first time since they bought the club and the lack of money from (hopefully) failing to qualify for the Champions league plus the money spent on Fellaini and mata will leave the Glazers battered and bruised and reluctant to splash the cash to the same extent. Add to that, if United fail to finish top 4 they'll find it harder (although not impossible) to attract world class player.

And of course they'll need to find another £30m in the summer to pay off Moyes' contract when they sack him 🙂

I understand the rest, but the share price thing seems illogical. The share price had no bearing on income.

It's like saying you'd change the amount you spend on shopping depending on whether your house value increased / decreased.

I don't think the Glazer's give a flying fuck about the football team, they are solely motivated by greed and I think the decrease in value of their asset will cause them to cut expenditure and take the "moneyball" route in the hope they can improve the value of their asset "on the cheap".

We should be in there enquiring, bidding up if only to make Utd pay more and later ( even if we have no intention of going through with it ), they have disrupted us in the past, why give the cunts a free ride make the tossers pay 50mil for him

Ozil for £42.5million. Mata for £40million. Which's the better deal?

Can't see of the European clubs joining in the race, especially at that price.

I reckon £40m is a fair price given his age, experience, level of ability.

It riles me that just as Utd are on the definitive slide, they have the opportunity to sign a top quality creative player (one of the best in Europe in my eyes) to jump-start their season and make push to retain their Champions League status - without baulking at the price.

Meanwhile, having made an excellent start/middle to the season after a summer of trying (and failing) to sign a top creative talent, we're looking helplessly on and looking at loans/cheap alternatives whilst trying to keep some momentum going.

What's really ridiculous is that many of us assume we have the money to be interested in Juan Mata.

We don't. Tis a broke-ass mountain we've been climbing.

United spend considerably less in the summer, despite being in the champions league, it makes sense that they'd have more money to spend. The only way I can see this deal going through is if they send Rooney to Chelsea, and if they do that, they wont be much stronger this season.
