Some of these were for the Downing signing ....

Downings hit the woodwork 3 times this season, if it we 3 goals no one would question 'The Downing signing'
But they weren't goals, were they.

I'm just pointing out that he isn't as bad as some people seem to hope he will be.

Some people on here seem to like players to fail to score a point in a internet forum ......

No one has accused him of being bad. You're simply confusing wanting a better standard of playing with hating Downing and wanting him to fail. He's been fairly average thus far regardless of whether he's hit the post a couple times or not and I think it's fairly clear that we could've and should've bought better.

Yep, he's a fantastic talent. Every club in Europe will be after him now. Should have signed him in the summer.
How much would he have cost then ?

And where does he play ?
Right and left wing. I dont know, 12-18 mill maybe. 15 caps at the age of 20 and one of the biggest talents in Europe = massive fee
I'm tempted to go back and remind you of your defence of the Downing signing !
Ha! I seem to remember supporting Andys idea of siging him, so that wont do you much good mate.

I really don't think you go from the shit to shit in 6 months. Pastore is a very able player, not worth the fee mind you but I wouldn't mind if he joined in January. Our type of football would suit him.

Jovetic is still my first choice though.
Don't get me wrong, he is a talented player.

For a player of his age to come out and criticise everyone but himself for his performances is incredible.

He claims French football is defensive and all about being physically fit ... well why didn't he observe this and take this into consideration before making the move to PSG? It just shows he was motivated by nothing but the big money.

He'll get another season at PSG to prove himself.
If Rafa goes there Pastore may need to get his act together quicker than that.

Pastore was absolutely shite against Marseille a couple of weeks ago.
He's too lightweight even in the french league.

As for Shaquiri, i remember a few on here talking about him last year after his nice goal against England and I already gave my opinion at that time. He was right to stay at one more year and develop his game. Some players leave too early for big money and never deliver then.
Atletico Madrid may be a good step in his career to show if he can play at an even bigger club in the future.

There was nobody on here genuinely banging on about this guy. There were one or two people who said we could take a look at him - mainly the Scandinavians on the site - but that's it.

Now that he's had a decent game in the CL everyone is like WHAT DID I SAY! and boy, we fucked up!

Some of those were big fans of the Downing signing and over the moon after our summer transfer activity. Can't have it both ways.
I posted about him after the u21's or u19's or whatever it was last year, and then again after his games against England, but I cant find any of them on account of not spelling his name very well 🙁
But to be fair I definately wasnt the first at all. Some Euro posters mentioned him a lot earlier than me (maybe the KHL?)
Anyhoo, i can only find one post I made on him...

If youre suggesting he is wrong because he
A)Doesnt rate Downing
B)Thinks we wasted money
C)Thinks 20m could have got better
Then you are out of your mind.
There are hundreds of better players than Downing who would have cost a lot less.
Many have been named already in this thread.
Id add the Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri who looks world class in the making to me and plays for Basel and would have swam to a club like us for about €10m

Ehmm. I think you got the completly wrong end of the stick there brother. 🙂
The idea of signing Shaqiri, in a thread with alternatives to the signing of Downing.

Could make a massive impact, would work perfectly with Suarez & Carroll with his skills and crosses! But after this match, his out of reach for Liverpool.

Inter, Milan, United, City, Chelsea, Real Madrid or maybe Bayern Munich is more likely his next club. £25 mio prizetag maybe?

Because im quite sure that he will choose another club. With competition from the other clubs they can attract with better players, higher wage and playing for titles.

Maybe Liverpool can do that next year or next year again but if he move this summer, end of season i think he will choose another site, unless Liverpool are playing CL next year.

But, he could really make an impact, much more than i think a player like Neymar or Götze in the formation Kenny likes.

He isn't.

Pastore was absolutely shite against Marseille a couple of weeks ago.
He's too lightweight even in the french league.

Another woeful performance from Pastore, this time against Lille.

L'Equipe gave him a 4/10, which is an improvement on his 1/10 against Marseille

As he was substituted the entire Parc booed him off!

To add, his agent apparently did a runner on him for 15-20M, so he didn't get a cent from the 15-20M his agent got from the transfer (with the other 20M going to Palermo).

Javier Pastore booed by PSG fans !! 20111218

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has joined arch-rivals Liverpool in the battle to sign Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri starred for Basel as they dumped Manchester United out of the Champions League earlier this month.

Now his reward could be a mega- money switch to Old Trafford as Fergie looks to bolster his midfield in next month’s transfer window.

United have sounded out his agent Ulisse Savini about a possible £10m switch to the Premier League champions.

Shaqiri, 20, has been likened to Messi following a string of impressive displays for Basel and Switzerland.

The creative midfielder, who was born in Kosovo, has a similar build to the Barcelona star and is also left-footed. He impressed Fergie in both group games against United and is tipped to become one of the best players in Europe.

Liverpool have been tracking Shaqiri since Roy Hodgson was boss and Anfield director of football Damien Comolli has watched him several times.

Fergie is confident of landing him and can offer bigger wages
, but Shaqiri is keen to help Basel progress in the Champions League knockout stages.

Fergie, who is also keen on Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan and Ajax’s Christian Eriksen, might have to wait until the end of the season before clinching a deal.
