Wells only came to Britain in 2010 at the age of 20 and only started playing regularly (i.e. got spotted by Bradford) when he was 21, he's just turned 23 and seems destined to play at a (much) higher level. Ian Wright was a late "starter" to league football and he had a stellar career, Wells' "advanced" years should not detract from his potential.
Sure but it doesn't make him comparable to Hughes either.
Hughes and Wells are comparable because they're young players with talent who could become excellent players and my point is that, from what I've seen, £4m on Wells would be money better spent than £15m on Hughes.

Well I was a big fan of the Joe Allen signing and it hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped SO FAR so hopefully if we get Hughes I'll be wrong about him too 🙂
I'm an Allen fan, its a shame he just can't get on the pitch to show us why we bought him!
Even when he's on the pitch he doesn't show us why we bought him.
I'm obviously still a big fan of his but he needs to start proving his worth, he seems to be letting the pressure of playing for a BIG team get to him.
If Lucas and Henderson can 'succeed' here, Joe Allen certainly can.
I would hardly call lucas and hendo success stories. They're average, but certainly not great. We need better IMO.
Its all relative, if Joe Allen can improve as much as they can and fulfil his potential then he'll be solid asset for us.

Sometimes my reputation gets in the way of some quality posts.
Like the time I said we should put Gerrard on a pay as you play contract or that the UK should adopt Australia's policy on Asylum seekers.
