What do we need then?

Ok - here is the aknowledged truth of last season with the so called shit team we had:-

1) We created loads of chances
2) We kept hitting the bar more than anyone else
3) We competed well against the top sides and beat them

That tells me that there was something wrong in the final third with our finishing and on the negatives:-

1) Lucas was out injured
2) Gerard was out injured
3) Suarez out for 8 games.

Still we got to two fucking cup finals and beat teams that finished above us on the way. When you take your eyes out of our arses for a minute you will realise that even with the team we had last season we were very capable of getting a top 4 finish - which was always available to us to aim for even after the carling cup final win. However, for whatever reason the team did not perform to WIN against the lower teams we faced and that cost us. So my conclusion is that we still have a team that can challenge for 4th spot or above if Brendan organises the team and gets them to play like he wants us to. My own feelings in terms of formation for success is as follows:

Johnson----Skrtel---[Other/Agger]----Jose
---------------[Allen]---------Lucas--------------
------------------------SG---------------------------
[Dempsey/Downing]---Borini---------Suarez

During the course of the season - I suspect that there will be some rotation where Adam (if he is still here with us), and Henderson will play apart taking up one or two of the midfield roles. I have left out Carroll because I don't think he will be in any of the plans. In defence I expect Brendan to use Kelly, and Coates as and when needed, along with Sterling, and other young ones for the attacking positions when needed. I truely believe that the team there can challenge strongly for a top 4 finish.

There you have it all - the FUTURE blueprint for success.

Gentlemen of the board, sorry for not posting earlier but I am still in awe of this place.....no-one is calling each other names every other post and then asking for a scrap the next, I commend you all.
Back on track, would it be an option to push Gerrard through the middle with Suarez and Borini either side and then have a midfield behind of Lucas, Henderson and Allen (?)....please go easy on me bearing in mind how I first started this post.

Welcome to the site. We all love each other really.

That personnel and formation could well be an option, but i'd worry about the lack of pace down the flanks and we'd possibly be lacking an attacking threat from midfield unless Henderson can start becoming more effective in that department
(Lucas sits deep, as does Allen from what i've seen).

Alot will depend on what level of performance we get out of Gerrard this season, obviously vital that he remains fit.

I think too much is made of having ultra pace - I don't actually think both Lucas, and Allen are your static defensive midfield types, they are quite quick in themselves and versatile - I mean Lucas use to be a box to box player. SG can be fast as we all know, and I don't think any of the front four in that formation are slow either (i.e. Downing/Dempsey/Borini/Suarez). It will all be about the execution of how quickly we move the ball around and move into space, and to sustain that level of performance over 90 minutes.

I'll tell you when I find one. Essentially a replacement for SG

You will NEVER be able replace him. For starters the replacement itself has to be home made Liverpool, bought up on LFC history, determined to take on all the pressure and make huge sacrifices along the way despite having shit around him on many occasions - thats the mental/character part of the equation. Now the other part in terms of footballing ability:

1) He has to be explosive with pace and with the ball.
2) Be able to have a strikers touch and ability in the goal area.
3) Be able to have long distance shooting ability
4) Can play in any position on the pitch and be above average as a minimum requirement.
5) Has defensive awareness, along with great attacking midfield creativity.
6) Can get past players
7) Can provide long-range passes from deep with creative through-balls when oppertunity is there.

Fuck - me he is our Superman, and Optimus Prime, and you cannot replace him. Sorry we are fucked if we try that.

Well, a lot quite frankly.

I'd settle for going back 18 months and giving that 120M to someone with a fucking clue though.

Welcome to the site mate, hope you stick around.

Stevie has been advocated as a striker a few times on here by a number of people actually.

I'd have been all for it three years ago tbh, but now I simply don't think he can do the amount of legwork needed under this Rodgers system & be sharp enough to make the right decisions upfront.

There is an issue to be addressed though, in that we're short goals, & Stevie in the central midfield position most want him in doesn't score those anymore (I can't remember the last time he scored what was his trademark 35 yard strike) so he maybe better utilised elsewhere, esp considering shelvey has shown he can score those goals (albeit at a lower level)

Lol - so true man, apart from downing i had no idea who henderson and adam were. worse part of it all is that no one takes us seriously on transfer fees anymore - they hear liverpool and Add 8m to a price they would even quote chelsea. we are the premium club when it comes to signing english players.
