Still stories circulate about Carroll and Agger. Assuming those two stay, do we need the massive overhaul people say, or do we need tweaks?

I'm not against any of those departures - not that he had much choice with some - in principle. So long as we have decent replacements. If we see Suso and Sterling in the 1st team squad week in week out then that is a major positive, for them and us. Carroll's potential loss concerns me a little, as then IMHO we will need two additonal strikers and assuming Dempsey is one I'll be very interested to see who the other is.

Assuming we keep Skrtel & Agger (and they sign new contracts - otherwise take the money and invest) then I don't see a major overhaul is needed. Borini, Allen, this Dutch GK, Dempsey, A.N.Other striker and Affelay and I'd be very happy with that window. I think there may be more coming in though.

At minimum
A striker regardless Carroll leaves or not.
A swinger if Bellmy leaves.
A cm if Shelvey isn't ready. I'm not sure if I would want to give Cole and Adam any more chances. They are à bit like Smicer. Looks good on paper but too error prone and lazy.

Downing has to go, can't see him fit in (in a 433). I'm no fan of Spearing but for now I can accept him as back up. Cole has to go also. We have Shelvey and Adam so no need for Cole or his high wages.
