How can his legs be gone? He's only 30 years old.

Fuck me, how is Totti even standing up?

I reckon that makes Rooney around 65.

Anyway a player should be at about his peak at 30.
I've never heard of a player being done as a player at 30 without having a history of injury problems.

Is the fat gene really that strong?

Depends on the type of player you are. A lot of players (wingers mainly) who can't adapt are washed up at 30

Whatever happens, they can't moan they haven't had their money's worth out of him. Bought at 18 years old, and he's now their second top scorer of all time and won 5 titles and however many cups.

Yeah, he's always been very well rewarded, but his record his very impressive indeed. Hopefully he'll slowly drag his way to become their top scorer, while playing nowhere his old level, and wins nothing else ever.

Very rarely a top class player.

Well, maybe the accrual of various injuries over the last 15 years have simply reduced his pace and mobility.

I don't know. I don't have access to his private medical records and neither am I a doctor.

Rooney's an odd one. I've said it on here before, but he looked infinitely more effective and frightening in his teenage years. I remember him breaking through at Everton and being genuinely terrified to face them in the derby. His first couple of years at United saw him add a genuine goal threat to his game, but as he did so, the naivety and tenacity was seemingly coached out of his play. That may seem like a bit of a cliché, but it looked like that was the case. Each year, he seemed to take up a different role in the team. I remember one year he became a penalty box player, and became good in the air overnight. Where had all the long range strikes gone? Then he was on the wing to accommodate Ronaldo. Now, he's being inched closer and closer towards central midfield. His mobility is certainly waning (excuse the pun), but that doesn't account for the apparent loss of technique and increasingly poor decision-making.

Maybe his heart's not in it, maybe his legs have gone. I think he's a bit of a thick lad who was naturally outrageously gifted at football, and hasn't really looked after himself because he didn't really have to as a kid. Being moved about under Ferguson made his game more well-rounded, but he lost the edge he had. Now he's all a bit meh.

Cue hat trick against us...

What do you mean 'now' do that? That's how he's been playing anyway

Fellaini is sitting in front of the back four and while his passing is accurate, it's mostly short and sideways. Pogba is not one for dictating play with the ball either, and Rooney's dropping deeper and deeper.

Some of their passing against Watford was simply embarrassing.

I think he needs to bring Carrick into the side, or drop Rooney to allow Mktikitikitaryn to play centrally behind Ibra.

I hope this poor form continues, it's very enjoyable.

Well, to be honest, I don't watch them. It makes my eyes hurt.

But, yes, I do hope this form continues & he keeps playing Rooney.

I'm a doctor. I reckon he's gone because he smokes. When he was young he had the energy and lung capacity to pump enough oxygen into his fat but powerfully built body. With that oxygen he'd move around at some significant pace. Now his fat carcass is older and less efficient, combined with the damage he has done to his lungs, there is no longer enough oxygen to drive his muscles with the same power. He's visibly out of breath in games. That stupid hair transplant probably hasn't helped either, being sedated and hooked up to an oxygen mask can further fuck up your poisoned lungs.

I bet Dantes is a terrible plumber

I think there's some merit in the genetic route. Rooney, and his extended family, don't seem to have a naturally build for athletic achievement. You lookat physical "specimens" like Gerrard, Bale, Ronaldo or the whip-thin likes of Giggs, Hansen etc, and you can't help thinking that if Rooney was a plumber, or whatever, he'd be a physical wreck and about twice the weight he is now.

It is rumoured he has a must play when fit clause in his contract which, whilst dubious, makes me very happy when he is in this form.

Mourinho will be needing the hair transplant if this is true

Must play when fit?

For fuck's sake, as IF

We have a must play 75% of matches when fit for our youth loanees. Which is ludicrous, but it clearly is possible to negotiate something like this. Not saying that this is true of Rooney's contract btw. Just throwing it out there. Like a stinky fish.

Watford manager celebrating the PK award against Fellaini while his player was down, rolling in pain. That struck me as quite odd. Boss celebration though.
