Virgiling on the vandijkulous

if that's their bid, Soton will sell.
No way in hell they'll say no to that money.
The question is will VvD stick to his "I want to play for Klopp" line of thinking, or go to Conte.

If Chelsea bid €68million and Soton accept, he'll go there.
Don't kid yourself - footballers are not fans.

If Chelski have bid 68mill, it's because they've spoken to the player and his agent first (but not made it public like some dickheads) to see if he'll go. They wouldn't have bid that much money on a punt and the player doesn't fancy it.

It also comes to a point were the fee is so ridiculous that you just have to walk away.

I was all for 44 mill + add ons. But 68 mill euros. Fucking hell, thats to much.

Since when is the currency in the UK been €?

Yesterday the Daily Fail alongside other broadsheets couldn't work out that the fee quoted was in € because the seller is on Euro land. Today we're told that a transaction between two British clubs is in euros!

Its because the story is from Sky Italia. Which also makes it more likely to be BS mind...

Why does sky Italy have the scoop on a Dutchman playing in England joining another English side?

I still think he end up a Liverpool player this summer.

I'm confused as to how a better team, with more money, who have just won the league, in any way Shape or form, bidding on a player we want, is being "good for us"

So if we want him all we have to do is match Chelsea's bid
Doubt it. They can just refuse to sell him to us.

Keep an unhappy player and fuck us over, or van dijk will just go "well, Chelsea it is"

Is it really likely they would insist on selling to Chelsea if we matched or improved upon Chelsea's offer?

Well - i think they got pissed off because we tried to ward off interest from Chelsea and City. Reducing the chances of a bidding war.

Now they have the opportunity to have one, so i don't think they'll give a shit who he goes to

That's usually exactly the post I'd make, but in this case there is still a slim hope, given Dick's widely-reported admiration for Klopp and preference to join us.

A translation of £60m since it's a European media station

... and since the current League champions and favourites are, alledgedly, bidding £60m then the 'war' will be brief.

It wouldn't surprise me if they added a premium because it's us, because we're thick enough to pay it. And tbh, Chelsea are a good side to try and befriend. They've got a higher turnover of good players who Southampton might want in the future. So cut a bit of slack now, they might get some good discounts in the future

Maybe, but I don't think it would be a bidding war, klopp apparently doesn't want to overpay for players if we feel like we're being fleeced. It might get them an extra 5m or a change in the payment structure. I don't think either side is going to make the fee skyrocket

Plus, I wouldn't want anything to do with saints, because what's stopping them selling him to us, and then blowing up over the tapping up. I'd rather hands off and keep distance until it's blown over

Is it possible that these links are coming from Southampton in order to establish what is selling price is.
As Ross says, I suspect that they were actually pissed off with us pretty much eliminating the competition for his signature, effectively negating their ability to get a premium price.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if we mentioned a low ball figure, say less than £40m, to really set them off.
I would still be hopeful that he will come to us, or I would be if I was happy spending £50-60m on a centre half that has just missed six months through injury.

Yes, definitely. Understandably they were pissed off.

That wouldn't happen. We would only buy him on the condition any complaint was dropped.

It's happened in the past with someone. Can't remember who.

How would that be enforced though?

Any Contract that forgives tapping up would surely be looked at under great scrutiny by the FA?

They might not like it but I don't see what they could do about it. They wouldn't be a party to the contract between the two clubs.

Interestingly Southampton have just announced the appointment of Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager. Doubt that will make any difference though.

Yep. Which is all Saints want. Money. Like the care who he goes to.
They weren't upset by a low ball figure, hat happens lord knows how many times every window. As said before, is because hey we're hoping us, Citeh and Chelsea would wage war for vvd and smash the price up. It could have made a huge difference to the final fee.
