Virgiling on the vandijkulous

A new low in the ever depressing saga of fsg transfer dealings. Really poor management at the very top with this one. dreadful start for Peter Moore., his first big test and he fails. Hope Kieta hasn't been tapped up.

They should also sack the guy who leaked the club has will have a big transfer kitty.

He's like 6 days in, and any alleged tapping up is likely to have been pre-reign. Not what he will want to see upon joining, however.

Can't wait for all the briefings to the press tomorrow about our tapping up. Amazing how no other club gets torn apart like this. We are either too honest or too dumb.

I still can't quite believe what I'm reading.

I can see everyone is like someone is getting sacked, heads will roll but this sort of embarrassment is par for the course under FSG, for example the Dempsey tapping up, the Jen Chang saga, Being Liverpool, the Suarez t-shirts... and now this.

We know first hand that it can always be worse but god damn, after 25 years of mediocrity and incompetence, it would be nice to feel assured that we didn't have to worry about the non-footballing side of things.

I wonder to what extent this will negatively impact the rest of our (attempted) transfer dealings.

It'll make other clubs look at us like we're small time, and players would be reluctant to come to a club that is shockingly run

F*cking Millwall have a better rep than us this week.

We are a joke but on the flip side I'm delighted we aren't spending upwards of 60m on a cb who hasn't done it at the highest level and has a crocked ankle.

The bad news is that our operations on the transfer market have not got any more competent since the departure of Ian Ayre. The good news is that we have saved ourselves from spending some £60m on a CB.

Southampton obviously have a much better scouting network than Liverpool, because they sign great players on the cheap, and then sell them to us at a massive mark-up.

My suggestion is that the LFC backroom people identify which players Southampton are about to sign, and then poach them. The club would save itself a fortune.

Fuck Southampton. Trying to squeeze another 5-7 mill out of the deal is lame. Så they will now agree to sell him for less. 100% behind us backing out of this one. And they will struggle this season with another new guy in charge. Fuck them

We seem to have developed a habit of handing out massive jobs to people who have no experience previously in operating in a footballing spotlight as big as ours - Ayre, Rodgers, his assistant who always wore shorts, his next assistant from league 2, Mike Marsh, Edwards, Alex Inglethorpe, Moore, Jen Chang. I understand there really is no template career trajectory which prepares a person for a job at LFC. I kinda get that FSG is trying out new ways and sometimes it works out. For example, it looks like Inglethorpe is doing a great job. But I am wondering if the repeated gaffes are a reflection of the footballing inexperience of our management team.

Maybe FSG should look into hiring someone old and boring, been there done that David Dein types. Who know their way around the politics of football. Who can wine and dine the other owners and who know how to push our agenda without leaking to the press. Somebody who can advise some of our staff "maybe threatening our supporter is not a good idea", "Let us hold of on our celebrations till we get the player".

Southampton are in a position where they can take risks on potential. The vast majority of their players have significant ups and downs in form and are provided with ongoing opportunities. The pressure of playing for Liverpool is immense and we can't let youngsters grow into their potential with anywhere near as much freedom.

Whilst we demand perfection, Southampton are often happy with progress.

If Origi was at Southampton he would be in the paper daily.. talks of 40mil transfers to Dortmund or Chelsea. Instead, he's on our bench being touted as an epic flop.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement. It's a body blow. We went in one day from making a statement signing to being a laughing-stock. I thought our transfer incompetence was in the past, but this is one of the biggest fuck ups I can remember.

The sooner people cop on to the fact FSG are a bunch of amateurish, arrogant, incompotent frauds the better.
Every fucking summer it seems like we're embroiled in some unnecessary transfer saga.
Whether it's down to them themselves or the people they'really hiring it's happening under their ownership. Fucking embarrassing.

Apparently we are fucking up the Salah move as well... IF the club was quieter then we wouldn't know this shit... fucking idiots there somewhere...

We'd get sanctioned for poaching no doubt

Yeah that's bollocks. Since all clubs do this it'll be a case of .. "there but for the grace of God ......".

As a player I doubt any give a fuck unless they were dead keen to see VVD at the club. It does however show that we were indeed going to flash £50-60m on this guy, and it wasn't just media talk, and that is a huge signal of intent even if this one falls through (still the possibility of VVD handing in a transfer request - which might be Southampton's end game).

Haven't they done that already ? This is the guy touted as VVD's replacement :

All clubs do it but we're thick enough to get repeatedly caught

As for us splashing the cash... We MIGHT have splashed the cash, but it also looks so amateurish that it seems like we've intentionally fucked the deal up

This fucking sucks.
It comes off really badly.
It seems we're the only club that gets fucked with this kinda stuff (see Bellerin/Barcelona).
I wonder how Klopp is handling the fact he's going to lose his top CB target ...

We would have been a laughing stock had we spent 60m on Van Dijk.

Wait, I thought FSG, Klopp and the super-duper negotiations team at Liverpool were back doing things 'the Liverpool Way' and signing players without any fuss, or anyone hearing about it in the media first, and just getting it done quickly and quietly?

I'm sure we've heard some cretins post that every summer.

Yes, but if I was Klopp I'd walk away from the club over this. It isn't going to happen. This was a key transfer and the club blew it horribly. It's not a minor setback. It's a shocking mess up. You just can't trust a club like this.

If you'd been caught tapping up a player you'd walk away from the club ?

What is that Graeme Kelly chap like on twitter? Any good?

He has been really smug the past few weeks and is now seeing this potentially collapse around him.
He was the one claiming the fee was agreed at 44m plus 8m add ons.

I think it safe to say he was 100% wrong on that one.

Has the 'how' and 'what' been established yet ? A lot of people here are jumping to conclusions re. media release etc. I'd love to know what pushed Southampton over the edge. Maybe they really really don't want to let him go this Summer, with Puel gone.

Presumably it was the meeting between Klopp and Van Dijk in Blackpool ?

I've seen claims by Red Tops, followed by other media outlets, but nothing has been admitted or proven. Isn't that so ? It's almost beyond belief that Klopp could go to a meeting with VVD without permission. To be honest I became so depressed when I read the Liverpool statement, and no-one it seems has released anything definitive, with speculation rife that it was a meeting or texting, that I stopped reading these threads and the media hysterics.

NB. Obviously the club's statement indicates something was seriously amiss. I just want to know what !

Look at the timeline:

- Klopp allegedly meets Van Dijk in Blackpool , with a subsequent trail of texts. If we had permission to speak to him, why Blackpool ? It makes zero sense unless we didn't want to be seen.
- Bookies stop taking bets on him joining us, the media report Klopp has convinced him to sign.
- Southampton report us to the Premier League
- We back down and apologise.

If you can't read between the lines and want to insist we did nothing underhand thats your business. But I can't see us backing down and apologising unless we were caught red handed.
