My expectation is that we will concede 3 goals as always, and Mata will appear in the 2nd half wearing a Valencia jersey

We should be playing an XI thats as close as we can to the team that will start next weekend, if Kenny is still experimenting with his lineup and unsure of who he wants to play where then this preseason was a complete waste of time

My only interest in this game is what part Aquilani will play, onsidering that Stevie is injured and Luis isn't fit. I'm sorry, but watching Downing, Hendo and Adam in midfield is far from exciting.

If Aquilani starts? Good call Kenny, he deserves it.
If Aquilani doesn't start or isn't part of the squad, it means he's definitely off. Kenny surely doesn't rate Hendo and Adam more than Aquilani who's outshined both of them during pre-season.

That would be a worrying scenario if we'd just spent over £20m on those players.

I rate Aquilani too Modo but it's pretty obvious his days are numbered and I don't think it's really for footballing reasons.

You're right but I'm having a hard time letting go, still clinging on, hoping for some sort of breakthrough. If this was a "Disney" college movie the captain and the coach would stage some kind of corny intervention and persuade him to stay. It ends with us winning the league.

Modo, I love Aqualani but that line pissed me off. Stop being so passive aggressive. If Kenny (our best player and current manager) doesn't play Aqualani there has to be a reason.I'm not saying he is infallible as i'd love Alberto to stay but Roy and Rafa didn't seem to trust him either. Henderson and Adam will give 100% if called upon and that is why Kenny will probably place a bit more trust in them over the Italian. Aqualani is a wonderful player but doesn't seem to have the trust of our last three managers so stop making it out as if it's poor Alberto against the mean mean world.

I think we've had this discussion before, but what does 100% mean if the other player clearly is a lot better. I really don't understand that 100% reference, I mean let's say that Adam and Henderson by your own definition gave a 100% against Valeranga. How come Aquilani changed the game in 10 minutes with less than a 100% effort?
Why shouldn't he be trusted then? What is the reason?
I don't know, last thing Kenny said was that he was "delighted" with Aqua's pre season.
I'm getting mixed messages all the time regarding his status. Management delighted, yet rumours about him wanting to leave. Agent says he'll stay, later on, "he's not wanted".

The way I'm looking at it:
Aquaman > Adam
Aquaman > Henderson

But for some reason:
Starting line up: Hendo, Adam etc
Subs: Aquilani etc.

You can call it passive aggressive if you want but it's not like I'm giving up on the lad.
Until he actually leaves, if someone asks me about the starting line up, I'll always pick Aquilani ahead of both.

On pure talent Aquilani is head and shoulders above everybody but Gerrard in our midfield bunch. It's applying that talent is where he falls down. If you knew he was going to approach games in the same way that the others were he'd be a mainstay in our side. It looks like he's a bit lacking in testicular fortitude though.

Agreed. His talent and natural ability is obvious.

You know let's not turn this into a another Aquilani thread. I'll let ILD have the last say juan the mata (see what I just did there) and let's just keep this thread on topic.

Modo, I like and rate Aqualani so I'm not bothered getting into any debate here. I think Aqualani is a more gifted player than both but Im sure Kenny feels he can trust both ahead on him when the chips are down. I'd love Aqualani to play a part in our season but three managers don't seem keen so questions must be asked. Perhaps giving 100% was a poor choice of words as Im not insinuating that Alberto doesn't make an effort. I also wasn't using that friendly against whatyamacallit as the barometer of applying effort. I was making reference to the upcoming season as a whole and the potential trust Kenny might place in his players.

I'll be gutted if he goes out on loan but will be appeased if he's sold so we can all move on from this saga. He's a wonderful player but there must be a reason he isn't confident of staying.

OK, ILD I get your stance.

Just a heads up to all the posters here, I might go "bananas" if Aquilani actually does play and performs well.

This thing about trust though, sometimes you need a bit of leeway in a side, we saw with Rafa and Ged that sometimes you can become too transfixed on method and system and it makes the team far too rigid. Like Rafa wanting his teams to be efficient and robotic, sometimes you need to sacrifice a bit of that to allow yourself someone who can be an enigma and can conjure up something the opposition are unprepared for. We've got enough workhorses, so we can afford ourselves that bit of luxury.

I would too to be honest.

If he hit the ground running this year we'd be a much different proposition. How do you defend against a team that has Suarez running amok, Andy Carroll as a threat in and around the box, in Downing a left winger who can consistently make space for himself to supply Carroll pretty well, and then you have Aquilani and possibly Gerrard lying deep waiting for any loose balls around the box ?

I suspect you're a wind up merchant, Quas/Ardja. If your only interest in a Liverpool game is Aquilani then perhaps you should switch allegiance to Fiorentina or which ever team he ends up playing for.

Considering that its a friendly I don't really understand why you're all wound up. For some reason you've neglected to mention that I wrote Luis and Stevie as well, so I guess you're the one trying to make something big out of nothing.

Clearly I'm not "wound up". I simply think that you're either incredibly immature or you're trying to wind the lads up. I just hope this match thread is not littered with more shite such as "Wow, Aquaman just spat on the grass" or "Oooh, Aquaman fell over" etc etc

Looks that way yeah. Will be interesting to see how Henderson does outwide. I'm made up for Aquilani, even if we are just putting him in the shop window, I hope he has a great game, I hope they all do.

You caught me before edit! Obv Adam needs to go somewhere as well. Please show us you are not the worst buy in the history of football Carroll (after Torres and Shevchenko).
