Thinks he owns the place

According to the papers we're interested in signing him. I think he's a good player, but 4 goals last season isnt impressive. Can play in a number of positions though.

Thoughts?

I like him. He's a striker, but like Dirk, played out of position in most of Boro's games.

I personally think he's worth a place and would improve our squad as long as he wouldn't cost too much.

What papers have mentioned it by the way?

yes please, talented creative player who will add something to our club, but we still are dying for a gem at the lwf spot

Tevez got 5 (in the epl) not sure if he has 4 in total or not.
I think he is a good player. Could fill in for Kuyt and Torres. Wouldn't see him starting lots of games. Would be happy to have him at the right price. He's an intelligent player with plenty of skill and vision.

He wouldn't be top of my list by any means and I've only seen him a few times but I was always a bit impressed by him. He's a Yossi like option I suppose. in the sense that he's good but maybe not good enough.

If it's the case that we fail to sign a striker and end up using Babel and Kuyt when Torres is out, then I wouldn't mind us having Tuncay to step into the team.

Tuncay is an interesting player, he could operate either side of Torres and would capable of leading the line upfront on his own.
Works like a dog and is versatile. Not suprised Rafa is interested.

Please don't buy Tuncay, he's average and runs like a gimp. Buy top class or persevere with what we've already got. No more revolving door squad filler.

he would be very cheap and is captain of the turkish team i think.
would be a great squad option coming off the bench

He's a good squad option.

And 4 goals for Boro isn't bad considering the team scored like 9 throughout 38 games this past year.

Agree with that. He will be a very useful player to have on the bench. The turn against Carragher was one of the best piece of skill seen at Anfield in many many years.

Is there a price mentioned for Tuncay?

He's a good player, but it is slightly demoralising watching City, Real and Chelski linked to Kaka, Ribery, Villa and Eto'o while we're linked to four Middlesbrough players.

Surely it's about we buy not who we're linked to?

That said, Tuncay would just be more pointless filler. We need players in reserve who will push for a starting berth and keep up the standard required when they do get their chance. I just don't see someone like Tuncay having a big impact, nor is he someone I would be excited about coming off the bench when we need a goal.

He's been my go to option for squad filler in the transfer threads but yeah, there is no point buying him unless a couple guys are getting sold.

He's like a diet-Dirk; works hard, plays in a number of positions without complaining, utterly shite haircut, and scores a few important goals.

I'd take him, but as others have said - only if it doesn't impact on our first choice targets.

He's looked decent despite playing in a struggling team, and we need a back-up for Torres who's not quite on his level but would be good enough to play in his own right when Torres is absent/unfit.  That's a very difficult balance to strike and Tuncay's as good a suggestion to do so as any I've heard.

Whaaaat? I thought we were talking £1.5m or something.

Good player, skilled, versatile, not particularly pacy, doesn't improve our first team. Zenden Mk II, which while a harsh comparison, would about sum up his contribution to a title run next year. Especially considering he's not on a free.

No player good enough to be even a stand-in for Torres WILL come on a free. Who else do we go for as second-string striker who's good enough, cheap enough to leave enough cash for our other priorities, and Prem-experienced?

I think there are a host of other options to be honest.

I havent got anything against Tuncay, but I do think he is a bits and pieces type player, who doesnt really excel at anything - not enough goals, not fast enough, hasnt created that many chances (albeit in a useless Boro side).

For me we'd be better off going for a striker that gives us a different option if Torres isnt available - I'd be more than happy with a Carew (target man) or Owen (natural poacher) to do that.

Unless our expensive top class wide player can also play up front capably, a striker should probably be a priority as well.

If we reshuffle our squad and find ourselves in the need of a player that can play anywhere across the forward line, then he'd be a very good acquisition for the squad, however I'm not sure that we will and at 8M is a bit too expensive.

I'd rather sign top quality and let Rafa worry about accomodating them and keeping them happy. That's what he's paid to do.

If we haven't got the funds to buy top quality then stick with what we've already got or take a gamble on a young lad like Nemeth. I'd prefer Babel was given his chance up front than waste 8 million on cover that could be better used elsewhere.

I don't think Tuncay is to 'stand in for Torres', more to compete alongside Dirk, Yossi, Riera & co.

As for your question it depends how much cash is left over.

I think buying a second striker has just as much importance as our left-wing spot because there we've got Riera who, despite an inconsistent season, has shown glimpses of promise and we have strongly competed for the league with him playing the majority of our games. In the striking department we're desperately thin on the ground. You can include Kuyt, I guess, but then that weakens the RWF spot so it's swings and roundabouts, then we're left with N'Gog and Babel.

I've said it before but if Bent is going for £12-13M we should be interested - any more than that, we should walk away and look for someone cut from the cloth. Padding out our squad with the likes of Tuncay and Distin should be bottom of our list of requirements.

Some good points there and I'd be happy enough with Bent if we did get him as Torres' stand-in.  However, I don't see Tuncay as being mere "padding" any more than Bent would be.  He's not as quick as Bent but he's trickier and more versatile, so he could play Torres' role when we needed that as well as covering those other positions, and a few mill.off the fee will be more than useful elsewhere.

Someone mentioned Nemeth, who I rated when I saw him before.  Is he fit and ready after his injury?  If so, then yes, he could be the answer.

Ive been impressed with his work rate more than anything this season. When most of his team mates looked as thought they didn't want to fight he seemed to have a good go himself. Neat and tidy on the ball and a clever player. Would be interesting to see him in a good side.
