I'm not sure when or why a local lad and fan of the club deliberately running down his contract became a totally sound thing to do and "fair enough" behaviour, but it still doesn't sit right with me.
I never hated Macca, or Owen, or even Sterling, and I certainly don't hate Trent, but for me this is way worse than what Macca did back in the day. We never tried to flog Trent against his wishes, we're actually really good now, and he's already got more money than he can possibly know what to do with.
I think we've got a right to expect a bit more than just total mercenary wealth-maximising behaviour from our local players.
Lol, I really hope you didn't bet your house on Trent staying, man.
Cause you sounded 100% certain in pre season.
I mean Real did come in with an offer in Jan circa £20m if memory serves me well. We rejected it. I mean it was probably payable over 20 years but it was still an offer.I'm not sure when or why a local lad and fan of the club deliberately running down his contract became a totally sound thing to do and "fair enough" behaviour, but it still doesn't sit right with me.

This has been coming since he signed that 4 year deal back in 2021.
I don't know why but I never quite got the same "local lad" vibes from TAA as I did from Gerrard or Carra for example (of course, "vibes" mean nothing so well aware this might be absolute shit). Maybe it's because I'm older and / or a bit more removed from football these days. Maybe it's because we're better now and there is less of a need to cling onto to local players as something of importance.
I don't think that what is happening is "sound" but that last point is probably why I don't feel as strongly as I might have done in the past. There is a general feeling that we'll be okay... that the club really is bigger than the player. With Gerrard, for example, that really didn't feel like it was the case. He felt - at the time - as big as the club.
It was inevitable for me the moment Jude signed for Madrid.Yeah, he was given a 6 year deal but wanted and signed a 4 in the end.

Nah, it was a recent, my mates an insider and said he's staying type thing... maybe I got whooshed and it was a joke!
He will hate it there. Almost as much as I would enjoy the schadenfreude.Congrats Trent! Enjoy Madrid!
It’s undeniable we will wish we had someone to turn defence into attack at some point.I think we'll miss him much more than some on here think.

I’m of the belief that we will be more defensively sound and it will require less covering from our midfield who can then contribute more to our forward play. Which will help us win more games and trophies.
One thing that hasn't really been discussed is how much this would tarnish the league win, ok maybe not tarnish, but it would be a bittersweet feeling, to win it and then lose these three. Not just in terms of we're losing three world class players, but also the fact that the last league win came with a lot of ridicule (people are pricks), would this one be the same? We're already seeing the "worst side to win the Premiership" narrative being tossed around. This would see a similar kind of playing down, "you won't win another one for a long time", blah blah.
After winning the league we should really see Slot getting the plaudits for doing so well with the squad and not buying anyone, we should hear about how things can only get better for this group of players. Instead all the talk will be about next season and how we'll likely fail because of the loss of such a crucial group of players. When you factor in that we do, to some degree, need to actually make some big changes without the future of these three even coming into play, it all seems a bit of a sour end to a great season, 'if' that's the way it goes.
I hope people do downplay slots success and expect us to underperform next year. That way, when we're doing back to back leagues we can laugh at everyone who doubted usThat will just be the narrative from bullshit trolls and meme merchants that are best to be avoided. The same people thought we wouldn't qualify for the Champions League post Klopp leaving and here we are. We knew we could have to undergo a period of transition anyway. Failing to get them to sign will accelerate things, and it will make people nervous, but the club regularly makes decent decisions and (generally) deserves more faith than it gets. Providing we don't implode, come to any parade and see how many people are stressing about next seasons squad, because it won't be anyone. If anyone can't enjoy properly celebrating a title win in thirty years then it's time to call football a day. There will be some doubts when any party dies down, but that doesn't detract from anything this group achieve.
Anyone remember Bradley starting when Barca beat us 3-0?Anyone remember when Bradley took that corner quickly to Origi? Good times.

I know Trent didn’t start that either. But you are doing Bradley a disservice there.
