Trent, Salah and VVD

That's true as far as it goes, but what if (as some have suggested on here, and I suspect they might be right) the club has made final offers and the players and agents are dithering or saying no? What more should we do then? Genuine question BTW.
If wed set out early enough, and said needs to be done by 31st Jan, or we need to plan for them leaving, and we'd meant it, the agents would have believed and it would be done by now.

If we have made a final offer that they have rejected, then we should swallow our pride and make another "final offer" to get it done.
It is financial suicide to let all of these three guys go for the sake of an extra £20k a week or whatever it is. We just need to manage the message that it doesn't give carte blanche to everyone else to ask for parity or thereabouts (including Ibou).
This squad needs to know that they are on the verge of winning stuff, year in, year out. If you want to be rich beyond your wildest dreams then piss off to Saudi, if you want to be a legend then sign on the dotted line and you'll still be set up for life.
I actually doubt it's about money and far more likely length of the contract. Supposedly Virgil and Mo.'s renewals are just about done - at long last.

One thing that hasn't really been discussed is how much this would tarnish the league win, ok maybe not tarnish, but it would be a bittersweet feeling, to win it and then lose these three. Not just in terms of we're losing three world class players, but also the fact that the last league win came with a lot of ridicule (people are pricks), would this one be the same? We're already seeing the "worst side to win the Premiership" narrative being tossed around. This would see a similar kind of playing down, "you won't win another one for a long time", blah blah.

After winning the league we should really see Slot getting the plaudits for doing so well with the squad and not buying anyone, we should hear about how things can only get better for this group of players. Instead all the talk will be about next season and how we'll likely fail because of the loss of such a crucial group of players. When you factor in that we do, to some degree, need to actually make some big changes without the future of these three even coming into play, it all seems a bit of a sour end to a great season, 'if' that's the way it goes.

Nothing could tarnish a league win for me. Too many people need to take a step back, realise we've won this once in 35 years and enjoy it. This is why we dedicate so much of our time and emotion to the football club. No player is bigger. If these three get to stand on an open top bus celebrating our crowning as league champions we should enjoy and relish this, not dwell on the negatives.

It won't tarnish it for us, but it's another stick for the rest to beat us with, to try to take the gloss off it.

We don’t and shouldn’t care about ‘the rest’. We’re all going to enjoy a title win that not one of us expected last summer. We can look forward to Slot finally being able to mold the team in his vision. The owners better be up for it!

We are a good team but it's been evident for much of the season that this is not a great team. We've been very lucky that City have imploded and that Arsenal (touch wood) have had their own struggles.

If this is to be this team's swan song then so be it, I don't think anyone expected us to do win anything of note this season so it's all a bonus. All good things come to an end and all that jazz.

(that said, I don't think all three will leave)

I don't care if we or anyone else thinks we're ok, good, very good or great. We will be title winners. Yes it would be handy if we break 90 points for any jousting we have to do in the pub (likely with Arsenal fans) but a title is a title.

Once we get slightly closer - I am likely to fire up a London Drinkies thread to see who fancies getting together to watch what might be the game where it gets crowned. Watch this space

breaking the 90 points would be perfect, beating Arsenal even more so.

Looks like it will be confirmed soon that Trent is leaving. It was inevitable really and the 1/3 that looked most likely to move on.
Its never a good look for anyone losing a HG player and scouser for free, but here we are.
Hopefully his wages and sign on fee will be so massive that we feel better about not doing that deal.

But, how replace him in the side will be a big challenge for Slot and Hughes. People can question his defensive frailties as much as they like but we arguably had the best passer of the ball in the league playing at right back.
So many cross field balls and first time hits in behind that start our attacks and play us out of pressure. That will have to be replaced somehow.

Big job for a few in charge this summer.

Lol, I really hope you didn't bet your house on Trent staying, man.
Cause you sounded 100% certain in pre season.
