Trent, Salah and VVD

What Trent should go to Madrid who are not Leeds or Man City? I'm with @moron I think we should just let him walk. The salary saved will just go to salah and VVD. We can get a player who can play RB and not a luxury player who might provide 1 assist in 4 games
No the bit about how happy he was to return

Virgil van Dijk rubbishes Liverpool contract rumour: “They’re absolutely wrong”

Virgil van Dijk has dismissed any suggestions that his future has been resolved after a contract rumour quickly spread online, insisting that it is “absolutely wrong.”

Liverpool supporters will hope there was something significant in the sight of Virgil Van Dijk’s representatives sitting next to the club’s director of football, Richard Hughes, in the front row of the directors’ box.

He would say that if it’s meant to be kept under wraps.

This is what he actually said:

“The only thing I’m focusing on is the game ahead of me, and I’m feeling good. I think everyone can see that, and what the future brings, at the moment, I’ve got no idea.

So anyone who says they know it, they are absolutely wrong. But we’ll see what happens.”

That’s according to the article Bluebell posted - I didn’t see the interview.

That doesn’t sound negative at all.

Saying he has no idea what the future brings is a lot more negative than saying nothing is resolved but I hope my future is with Liverpool.

He is basically saying negotiations are on going and he has not signed an extension as yet ie Richard Hughes is a lazy bastard and will retain that title until we see some output

It's no different to what he's said throughout negotiations. He's just not giving anything away, and rightly so. I don't think it's negative at all, these players are damned whatever they say, so I think he's played it quite well. Mo's the one who has sounded a bit more desperate for it to be resolved, by trying to publicly force the clubs hand a bit more, but neither of them have been classless about it at all, I don't think.

I agree neither have been classless and Mo has repeatedly said he wants to stay. I thought Virgil did at one point but maybe not.

Doesn't matter what they say - "nothing to report" (Virgil) or "I am disappointed the club hasn't made an offer" (Salah), or even say nothing (Trent), people will fill in the blanks with whatever they want to believe and then lose their shit & have a go at the player and/or the club. Especially (but not only) the loons/crazies.

Great news lads, Paul Merson doesn't reckon any of them are signing new deals. Which obviously means they all will, if we want them to. Best news in ages,
Not sure at this age, how Merse is still employed while others have been canned.

Hughes can’t sign the contract for him - so maybe Virgil should just pick up a pen.

Yep / no-one is saying anything, neither the players or the club, so impatient people just decide to fill in the blanks with whatever nonsense feeds their imagination.

Quite right. Exceedingly lazy. He's had ample time to rustle up a horse's head and mobilize Luca Brazzi to threaten our Captain.

@Holle was right. Trent's giving us 10% effort in defence because he doesn't want to get injured before his big move to Real.

I think he figures that if we don't want to pay him he's not gonna put his body on the line.
If he gets a serious injury like an ACL injury, Real will step away and he has to beg us to resign him. Or maybe it's the beginning of his evil-arch where he joins Man U?

If this was true I can't see Slot ever playing him.

But it's not, so he will.

Shudders to think, the state of our squad when the big 3 moves on. Basically we are left with Ibu, the 3 in midfield, Ali and Cody as reliable starters.

The kind of game we watched yesterday might happen more often with a few injuries.

Ask yourself why someone as reactionary as me is calm about this loss but others seem to have lost their heads? I am the "Crazy" one after all.
We played a bunch of players who physically didn't have too much playing time together and many of them had an off day. I think if Lex was allowed to play this game, he would have controlled the MF and we could have more luck but as it stands Harvey had an off day
I think its a blessing to be out, it means we our players and coaches can rest. In previous campaigns I have bemoaned Klopp putting out strong sides and players succumbing to injuries during the game, really impacting our league campaign

The thing is, we will not be offering wage increases to Salah or Van Dijk. If we were, they would be more inclined to sign, as every week they delay, they are effectively losing money. The best-case scenario for them is that we at least match the current offer, meaning the timing of their decision doesn’t matter.

Van Dijk has handled himself professionally throughout, though I can’t pretend it’s a great look for a club captain to be so non-committal. He’s not entirely to blame for that, but nobody comes out of this with their reputation enhanced, in my opinion. It’s not as bad as Henderson’s agent dropping all the Atlético rumours, but I still don’t like it. I don't think it's an unfair comment to say that if were Hyypia/Carra, etc, then would have been done months ago, because there's some recognition that the club and the title challenges comes first.

Meanwhile, Trent will have been offered an increase, so every week he waits, he’s losing money. That’s partly why he’s the most likely to leave—even before you factor in Real Madrid. Anyway, it's all been done to death and its just boring at this point.

Surely any new contract will be effective from 1st June, regardless of when it is agreed?
