Trent, Salah and VVD

I don't think Slot is scapegoating Gravenberch; he's trying to ensure Trent isn't being totally singled out, which is understandable.

A defensive midfielder does bear some responsibility if one side is consistently overloaded with players and chances. While these situations are always a collective issue, it doesn't take away from how utterly woeful Trent was. If Slot had called out Trents lack of effort and tracking back then he couldn't have complained, but it would have put further spotlight onto why Slot left him on the field as long as he did. Why he did is anyone's guess, but there could be reasons we don't know about. From the outside at least it was a glaring error.

I can't be bothered to listen to any interviews but without blaming any one individual, the team absolutely was absolutely at fault for not helping TAA out. I remember bitching about it in the match thread.

Yes, he was having a stinker and let his head drop but the number of times there was open space out on the right or 1 v 1s - and not always simply down to Trent - was criminal.

As for the general reaction, this is why loyalty should never enter the equation when it comes to football.

At about 4 mins.

To me that sounds like he's blaming Ryan and covering for Trent.

I think you’re reaching there mate - he did say Gravy wasn’t supporting him sometimes in the first half, sounds like that was something they tactically tweaked, it again he was at pains to big up Fernandez & Dalot.

The presser after he said pretty much the same but added the 9 times out of 10 Gravy wasn’t supporting supporting.

Teams have targeted our right hand side as it is weakest due to the way we line up. Yes, we are at our most destructive when Salah and Trent are performing. We are also at our weakest when they aren’t. I’d even bring in our RCB into that.

The opposition don’t tend to go down our left because they know that have to battle against Virgil, Robbo and Gakpo/Diaz/Mane who may not have the firepower down that side (I’m not saying they are bad at it) but don’t have the same vulnerability.

Maybe I am, but I still feel that its wrong to even mention Ryan, even though I understand why he did it.

Be interesting to know what Ancelotti thought of that display yesterday. If Trent does that in a Madrid shirt he'll be dropped quicker than a prossie's knickers.
He’s not there though is he? I thought he was off to be the Brazil manager at the end of the season.

That makes it stranger that Alonso stayed at Leverkusen because I was under the impression he was lined up for Madrid.

Looking back I don’t think Alonso would’ve been a good fit for us considering he plays 3 at the back like Amorim.

Trent would be slaughtered in the Spanish press if he played like how he plays for us at times. His body language is all wrong.

And at Madrid, he will not have Konate covering for his arse, he'd actually be left to defend 1 v 1.

Carvajal has put in some stellar defensive displays against us and City over the years. TAA would be expected to reproduce. His defensive effort (or lack of) gets forgiven a lot at Liverpool, because he's the Scouser in our team.

Personally, I can accept the odd lazy performance against a Fulham (not tracking a run). But against Man United? Nah, it was just terrible from him. If your passing game is off, at least work hard, as vice captain. He should feel ashamed today.

Spot on. Yet another example of: Hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard. It is the bare minimum we should expect.

He doesn't seem to take being beat personally. That's not great for a defender, or really anyone on the pitch.

Which club ownership and strategy would you rather we have?
Compared to? point was original about why agents are a necessary evil for a player. Clubs whether owned by Countries or Funds would get rid the minute they don't any value to the parent club and their in turn parent club owner. So why shouldn't a player get best value for himself. Short career, some make it and many don't.
