My Scottish godmother tells me that Glenmorangie is pronounced Glen - morange - ee (with the" morange" rhyming with "orange") and not Glen-moran-jee (with moran as in Ronnie) as most people pronounce it

And she comes from the same Glen as the morange does, so she should know

I'm pretty sure jj told us that the proper pronunciation of Moet was with a hard T.

I make a point of telling people now. They just look at me like I'm a tit. Which is nothing new.

That's right because Moet was Dutch and Chandon was French. Hic!

No

Moet on its own does not have a hard t, however if you give it the full name of Moet et Chandon then the "t" becomes hard because of the French rule of elision whereby a t followed by a vowel (even in a subsequent word) is hardened

We should have beaten those teams. Punching above our weight has always been our specialty, but the coaching system needs complete overhaul. We're not producing much talent, other than the PL few that make it. And yes, more foreign players in PL is an issue. But so is the lack of panache coming out of Belvedere, Stella Maris, St Kevins, Home Farm/Dublin FC, Cherry Orchard, and all the younger clubs around the country.

Still too much of a focus on being hard in the tackle.

I dont really follow the England international team, and couldn't care less how they fare, apart from the general wellbeing of the Liverpool players who play for them.

But I'm a bit confused as to why a draw away to Ukraine is not considered as a good result

Tbf I was expecting Austria to beat Ireland.
They have some young decent players and many of them play reguarly in the Bundesliga.
That Ireland squad is a bit shocking. Dunne and O'Shea? Forde?

You need a revamp of that squad as much as you need a new manager.

To be fair, while Forde did have 1 howler, he made some important saves. It could've been 3 or 4 nil.

Because the Ukraine are an average team, and the English press and fans still think England are fantastic, when they're not, they're shit. So everyone is expecting us to batter an average team the Ukraine. We've not got a single world class player in the England team.
There used to be a handful of teams better than England, now there's fucking loads. Woy doesn't help.

I think a fair proportion of England fans would be happy, in the short term, if their players just performed with the same technique and intelligence that they show at club level. It's amazing to think that most of those knuckle-dragging neanderthals from last night were actually some of the smartest and most mature players in the Premiership. I don't think any other national side has such a huge psychological problem - they really seem to leave their brains at home. You just don''t see it with comparable national sides. The German players look like they do at club level. The Italian players look better, quite often, than they do at club level - certainly smarter and braver. Many players for smaller countries punch way above their weight. Yet the England players look like they're on the verge of nervous breakdowns.

RoI have thrived under Dark Age managers. If they play a progressive game they won't qualify for a tournament ever again. Like Norn iron.

It's a common, but mistaken, theory that McCarthy played "dark-age" football. His Irish side (unlucky not to reach the QF's of the '02 World Cup) played the best football I've seen any Irish side play.

Sure we don't have the talent to play better equipped sides off the park, but that doesn't mean you don't try. Playing rudimentary, prehistoric football got shown up embarrassingly at the last Euro's, and should have signalled the need for change. There are plenty of 'weaker' sides who know how to keep the ball, press higher up the ground, and get results. You don't have to have Barca's midfield as options just to try and keep the fucking football. You just need a decent coach.

McCarthy blew that game vs Spain. They had 10 men and he didn't even know,

Whatever happened to Dave o L

O'Leary is available!

O'Leary returned to management on 4 July 2010 with United Arab Emirates club Al-Ahli Dubai, where his first decision was to install former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro as the new skipper of the team. On 2 April 2011, O'Leary was relieved of his duties following a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Al Jazira.[5][6] On 22 April 2011, Al-Ahli officially announced its decision to sack O'Leary with his assistant coach Roy Aitken.[7] When he was sacked, O'Leary had two years remaining on a three-year contract. In March 2012, he asked FIFA for help in getting compensation from Al-Ahli for the early termination of his contract.[8] In May 2013, he won $5.2m (£3.34m) compensation. The dispute was settled by Fifa's players' status committee. Al-Ahli claimed O'Leary had abandoned his post, despite previously stating he had been dismissed. O'Leary had won just six of his 15 league games in charge. [9][10]

Thats was 1 of the most unforgivable things I've ever seen in a match. At least pretend like you knew. He just stood there with a 'what?' look on his face when the reporter said it to him

I appreciated that honesty to be fair. It's why I like him. But he was an Irland fan at that match. Too into it. You needed a cool hand Luke manager. Could have made the quarter finals, again! Now that would have been something. Ok am finally letting this one go..

No wonder he was sacked. Beaten 5 - 1 by a TV station!
