Looking at who we brought in:

Joe Allen
Fabio Borini
Oussama Assaidi
Nuri Sahin

That is a very good window ... Our best in years ... Hopefully we get a Dempsey or another excellent loan deal - and once the team settles, we may surprise a few folk ...

Didn't we say this last year ?

WE'VE NOT GOT SAHIN YET

he might not show up

It largely rests on how good Osama and Borini turn out. We're desperately short in attack and if they don't add some much needed cutting edge and finishing in the final third we're in for a pretty disappointing season.

Delighted with the capture of Sahin even if we are getting shafted on the deal. It'll be nice to watch one less hapless clogger for a season - worth the money in itself. Allen I've not seen much of so I'll have to trust the judgement of others and hope that he's as good as everyone is saying he is. And if he is and Sahin does come, we've potentially got a fantastic midfield. Rogers just has to make it click - not as easy as it sounds.

In all honesty, I'm most excited about Sterling. Watching him last night is as close as I've gotten to feeling like I did when Owen broke through in years. Not quite as devastating as Owen was at that age obviously but it's great to watch an exciting young attacking talent break through.

Hopefully we get another striker before the window ends if Rogers intends on freezing Carroll out.

what Kenny said

For me, both Borini and Ass are wildcards. Im not sure whht to expect with either.

Allen is a safe bet and Sahin, if we do get him should be good for the season. Personally, I think rather than Borini a proper goalscorer should have been purchased.

infact £24m for Borini and Allen? Hmm,Jury's out.

We desperately need a goalscorer. Was disappointed Morgan wasn't given more of a go last night as we need to see if he can finish chances.

I think Assaidi will be ace. I've seen a bit of him in Holland alongside Narsingh and Djuricic (who I have a massive massive hard on for), and he looked the part of a very dangerous front quartet with Dost.

Borini I have no clue about, I hope he makes it.

I think Allen will be excellent, though I'm not sure if it's going to be in the central midfield position or a more advanced Nasri/Iniesta type role.

Sahin, if we get him, will be the signing of the summer I reckon.

Should however be infinitely better than last summer, which was meh then, and catastrophically bad in hindsight.

Didn't we say this last year ?

I think some nutters said it last year, but this year calm, rational folk are saying the same thing. Of course, our transfer activity in recent years has been SO bad, that I don't think "our best transfer window in years" really carries much weight. It only has to be a mediocre window to warrant that acclaim really.

Having said that, I'm delighted with Allen and Sahin, and cautiously optimistic about Borini and Assaidi. We could still do with another forward, though.

You think?

No one knew who Henderson was. Half the forum was tearing their hair off at Downing (though there were plenty who said he would be the best winger we'd have had in 20 years), and most were 'meh' at Adam. Bellers and Coates were the only two signings who had unanimous approval. Overall, other than complete idiots, I don't think anyone was particularly happy with last summer's dealings.

I see that some are being a bit more cautious this time around.

However, if we get Sahin this probably is the best window we've had in years.
Too bad we're having trouble letting some players go.

You really need to read that thread again. Best ever.

I seem to recall last summer's transfer window was a good one for shipping players out.
Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Degen, El Zhar, Itanji and a few others were moved permanently off the books while the likes of Cole and Aqualini were loaned out.
The transfers in weren't in weren't so good..
Up to now at least it is the polar opposite of this summer.

Count has it right. Last summer, the one thing we did do tremendously well was get rid of a shitload of deadwood. A pity we then went and squandered the best part of 50 million on Downing, Henderson and Adam.

We've had a fairly active window with outgoing transfers, too. We've not made much cash, but we have lightened the load on the wage bill significantly. More players look set to leave, too. Like Spearing, and quite possibly Adam and Carroll, with a striker coming in if possible.

When you look at who we've lost and who we have bought, it's a bit of a quiet revolution, with more twists still likely to happen.

We've had Kuyt, Maxi, Aquilani, and Bellamy all leave for nothing or next to, and they were all high earners. Then there's Spearing on the verge of joining Bolton, Adam and Carroll looking likely to leave, and that's just in the first window. Not bad at all.

You're absolutely right. This time around it would have been great if we could have shipped out Cole, Downing, Adam, Carroll and Spearing. There's still time.

Though getting rid of Aqualini makes up for them still being here

If we get Dempsey, it will be great, added to what Kenny said about Sterling, and signing up Suarez and Skittles, just need Agger sorted.

regards

We have nowhere near a tasty squad maybe a starting 11 but the squad depth is very poor. Upfront midfield and full backs the backups aint up to much if anyone got injured.

And that's where we'll suffer, but I'd take what we've bought so far, well it's certainly a bit more exciting anyway.

Add Huntelaar and kleenex is going to fly off the shelves.
