LIVERPOOL TELL TORRES HE HAS TO STAY

The Independent have waded into the speculation about Liverpool's transfer plans with the unequivocal backpage lead that:

'The Liverpool hierarchy will tell Fernando Torres that they have no intention of selling him this summer and that they plan to resist the offers from Chelsea and Manchester City for the Spanish striker.'

Now that's gonna stir the pot quite nicely - assuming, that is, Torres is in the mood to depart.

And there's a second twist:

'Torres's future has been one of the key issues in the arrival of new manager Roy Hodgson and the feeling is that to sell him - no matter what the price - would undermine any hope of success in the coming season. Torres's future is balanced against that of Steven Gerrard whom the club would allow to leave if he asked to do so - and providing that Real Madrid made a suitable offer.'

Why the difference? According to the Indy, it's because 'Liverpool feel that they would owe Gerrard the right to play elsewhere after 12 years of loyal service. They do not feel the same debt towards Torres who signed a new five-year contract in May last year. It is accepted that it may be practical to consider a sale of the Spanish international next summer by which time they hope the club will be stabilised under Hodgson.'

It has to be pointed out, however, that Hodgson reiterated his desire to keep Gerrard in his latest press briefing on Thursday.

A couple of additional lines in the Indy report that are worth highlighting:

First, 'In contrast to Torres, Liverpool have virtually given up on Javier Mascherano and are likely to sell him to Barcelona this summer.'

Second, 'There have also been suggestions that Hodgson could be interested in bringing Peter Crouch back to Anfield, having tried to sign him for Fulham last summer.'

Stevie G is going nowhere.

Quite happy about this though, I'm trying to get better odds than evens to stick some cash on him staying & this might lengthen the odds a little.

Yeah I think the same, though the logic of the article is how we'd want it to be - We don't want to lose either player, but if Gerrard were to ask if he could go to Madrid (or whoever) we'll grant his wishes.

Well it suggests we're standing firm over Torres, which hasn't been mentioned anywhere else, so hardly.

to ward off the suggestion he will be allowed to leave on the cheap?

No no no. That can't be right. Pissflaps and Broughton are supposed to sell him to Chelsea for 50 quid and use the cash to pay off the Melwood dinner ladie's leccy bill.

Torres will be here next season. I'll wager £20 to the HJC on it.
Good man, I agree, although I'm way to skint to pledge any money to them over it. I do give them something every year though when i get a payrise, so my conscience is clean!
So they'll be getting fuck all off you for the next 2 years then.
haha, not quite, I'll give them a bit of my redundancy payment if I get a job in time to do so!

That's if this illegal bill isnt forced through to reduce our redundancy to a bag of coal like.

This doesn't get mentioned off this site but the lad who texts me the info every now and then, well he told me before that Pissflaps and Broughton are secretly negotiating with DWP to sell Gerrard and Torres to them for 30 quid. DWP want to use them to hand out ration packs to the entire reserve team squad who are all to be fired last Wednesday. Truefax.

Hodgson has already stated that Gerrard is staying, so that part of the article is BS.

Barcelona can't even afford to pay their players wages, and had to borrow 120 mill £ this week. I have serious doubts regarding their Mascher bid.

Aguero eyes Chelsea move

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero has fuelled rumours of a possible move to Stamford Bridge, saying the thought of a future with Chelsea 'excites' him.

Aguero, 22, has been linked with a number of high-profile clubs in the summer transfer window following his rise to fame at Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish side appear to have already conceded defeat in their attempts to retain his services, saying their star man can go for the right price.

"If an offer comes in from the right club and Atletico feels it is the right price, then a deal can be done," Aguero told the Daily Star on Sunday.

"Of course Chelsea is of interest as they are one of the most powerful teams in European football.

"They show their intent summer after summer in the transfer market and more often than not that intent will see them end the season with at least one trophy."
Looking to the future

Aguero admits that building a stable future is amongst his priorities, but top of the list is silverware.

"As a player you need to look after your future financially but the truth is most top European clubs would offer me top packages," he said.

"What I need to consider is where I can win things and I know for sure I can win things at Chelsea.

"You look at their players and you are excited about any future you may have there."

The talented striker admits that the thought of playing alongside Didier Drogba amongst other Chelsea stars appeals massively.

He said: "To be the strike partner of Didier Drogba is a thing many players would love to be.

"But it's not just Drogba - it's Lampard, Terry, Anelka, Essien, and maybe even Fernando Torres.

"They have quality players everywhere."

Cheeky bastards. They've clearly asked him to mention that, cos he doesnt play for them yet they cant be accused of tapping him up or any other unfair advance. Cunts.
