Fulham, Liverpool join race for Real Madrid striker Van Nistelrooy

Fulham and Liverpool are being linked with Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Daily Star says Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp would be interested in the 33-year-old as well as Fulham’s Roy Hodgson, who failed with a bid for Peter Crouch in the summer. Even Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could consider an offer given his lack of attacking options and injury-ravaged squad.

Van Nistelrooy said: “If I do not get the chance to play in the next couple of weeks then the option to move on in January is very real and open. I need to speak with the new Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk about returning to the national squad, but I know that is impossible if I do not play at Real Madrid.

‘’If things do not change then I will need to study my situation and consider my options in January. I have not closed anything with any club and I would be interested in going back to England.â€

With the World Cup coming up I think he would prefer a move to a club where he wouldn't only play if the main striker isn't fit. So I guess it won't be us then.

The only thing is, it's tribal football.

But, yeah, I'd have Ruud in a hot second.

That doesn't sound gay at all, oh no !

sign him up - he should have been pursued in the summer to be our primary back up.
Do you really think he would consider a move knowing he would be a back-up?

One of the funniest things I've ever seen on here (or was it Koptalk ?) was the "Van Nistelrooy Signs For Newcastle" post.

He will get more opportunities as our back up than as 5th choice back up at Real.
Maybe. But he wants to make the Dutch squad for South Africa. He won't do it as a back-up striker. I don't think it's realistic.

It'd would be sweet revenge for owen going to United, I'd love it if we got him, love it (in Squeeky Keegan voice)

I hate him, and can't believe you all want to see him in a Liverpool shirt. Is he even any good anymore? He's 33, which is really old for a striker.

I hate him too Bunny. But he would score goals - 33 or not. And we're in desparate need of striking cover. Of course, if more suitable options came available they'd be preferable.

I'm not opposed to us signing him considering how few attacking options we have, but I wouldn't want to pay much, or ideally anything for him. The fact that whenever we deal with Real Madrid we always seem to end up getting fucked over also worries me.

Apart from when we sold them Alonso of course. We got a fair price there.

This is true. We ended up in a mess after that but it probably wasn't Madrid's fault

I don't want to see the horse-faced manc cunt anywhere near a Liverpool shirt.
Exactly

I'd take him. Ngog would learn a lot from him and he would take the pressure off him too. And yea, one in the eye for the Mancs. RvN is better than Owen.

How very small time.

...and Liverpool's van Nistelrooy with a real poachers goal just before half-time to cancel out Michael Owen's second minute opener for Manchester United..

I don't think United, with Rooney, Berbatov and Owen among their strikers would be losing a hell of a lot of sleep over us signing Van Nistelrooy to be honest

It's not the same anyways. Owen came up through the ranks and even taking into account all the "Kop never took to him like Fowler" and "he was only loyal to England" arguments, he was still classed as one of us. RVN was bought.

Feed the horse and he will score.

I'd take him in Jan. His goals could prove to be very important to us if Torres was out.

I think the one up front system is working just fine, it just requires gerrard and torres to be fit. Torres is a fucking monster alone up top by himself. But, I can understand a case for two up front, especially with gerrard and torres and their frequent injury problems.

none of us thought Owen would sit on the bench and be happy when the main man is out, he is doing OK

Ruud's knee is the issue, the best finisher in world footy over the last 5-7 years or so IMO

Owen had the choice of been a starter for Hull are being a bit part player for United. What would you pick of course he's going to be happier at United ? The big difference is RVN would have his pick of most clubs around Europe if he was available at the right price.
