Yeah a Fletcher might have been useful, but then there's the fee. We just bought a younger poacher for less then what Wolves want for Fletcher. It's ridiculous.
Downing was a bit unlucky but thats not the whole story and after a while luck is irrelevant. Suarez was also unlucky last season, didnt stop him from doing well.

I know sometimes players have to make their own luck, suarez didn't let his head drop whereas downing did. Suarez had already proven himself on a big stage, whereas stu hadn't. He was taking knocks from everyone. Understandably his head dropped as the season went on.

Comparing early season downing to mid-late season downing and the contrast is ridiculous. Initial stu was shooting from range, crossing from deep and trying to pass defenders. As time went on and the goals/assists didn't rack up, he became stupidly withdrawn and playe the safe options.
Henderson could get away with it as he had other creative outlets around him; downing had enrique to pass to or an optimistic punt into the box as our mobility and movement was appaling last season. With players flooding the box this year, stu will be in his element

They're paying for the potential of a 21 yr old who is highly regarded - its 12m with add ons which the potential may justify.
Fletcher is 24/25, well beyond talk of potential and has not set the league alight. crazy money.

£24million apparently, great deal for Arsenal imo, United really don't need him with Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck going for the lead striker role (assuming they keep playing there 4-3-3 formation). They should have addressed there midfield problems, Slur Alex's apparent blind spot.
