Has Agger ever played as a DM ... I'd like to see if he can handle it (not in the PL until proven of course). He's definitely not slow, good tackler, comfortable in the ball, aggressive, would help us win more headers in the centre of the park, can carry it forward and can pass. Would be interesting to see.
i conclude!! He has excellent ball playing abilities and is good in the tackle where are carra and skrtel are ace tacklers, but not as good a ball players, plus agger dropping into defence could make it an interesting prospect. Would need to be explored before throwing in at the deep end tho!
Hey, I've got an even more radical idea!!! Why don't we play Agger as a centre-back?! Because, y'know, it's his natural position! Wacky and out-there, I know, but maybe worth considering?!!!?
Oh for goodness sake !

There are many players around that have been converted from one position to another - nothing wrong with trying a player out in another position if he has the attributes for it. We currently have quite a few options for CB but Masher aside not a another true DM in the squad. If we ended up with say Defour and, let's just say for arguments sake, Agger proves he could play there in emergencies, then even when Masher leaves we don't need Lucas or the more-than-likely inbound Poulson. Too late by far for the latter as he's on his way in it seems, but maybe not for the future. Who knows, maybe we could end up with the Danish equivalent of Essien.
We can't be dong this kind of experimenting against the likes of Arsenal, Froggy.

edit : Yes, you did say not in the PL...I missed that..

But to be honest, I think we should be looking at quality players in every position at THEIR best position for every competitive game.

Am I the only one who thinks Aggers passing ability is rather overrated?
Nope.
Youre certainly the only one NOT to read other posters such as Vlad, Mark, Ryan and others saying that for about 2 years.

He is not quite the finished article.

He has the audacity to try a 50 yard pass, but not necessarily the accuracy or control required to execute them consistently. But other than his injuries, I don't see any reason why he can't develop that consistency. If and when he does, he will be one hell of a defender. I don't see anything wrong with his short passing game. He is a defender with a good touch and he can move the ball quickly. Valuable asset, he is.

Ronnie Whelan once said of Agger that when he's playing well, he (Agger himself) thinks he's the best player on the planet but......ah i cant remember the rest of it, something about Agger being overrated. Anyway Ronnie Whelans a little twerp 8)

I'm afraid I do. The fact that he still hasn't managed it despite being an experienced first teamer and international, not some teenager fresh out of the academy, worries me. Portly's rightly drawn attention to the fact that Agger's not all that great in the air, but his relatively poor passing is a more serious shortfall IMO, since football at top level doesn't tend to be played in the air that much. It's a particular pity as he's an excellent player in many other ways. Roy's renowned as a coach, so let's hope he can get to grips with this.

On a side note - Buchtmann left Fulham for Cologne?!?
Yeah - I noticed that. Something strange there as he was a revelation in the German U17 team. The suggestion was attitude I think.

As soon as Insua is off, our new left back will be signed. That I'm pretty certain of.
