Click Liverpool running the Darren Bent story
Bascombe got it at the same time as the person who told us, so it's presumed a few journo's got it about that time we think. It's got legs, the club have defo enquired, no more than that at this time though.

I've always liked D Bent, but we really souls have signed him when he was available for less than 15million, given how much Villa paid for him and how they stung us with Downing, you know we'll end up paying well over the odds for him. I mean, I know we're desperate for black players and all, but no need to get skanked...again.

The whole "injuries" and Cambridge Christmas shoping stunt have probably not helped his relationship with the fans or his transfer value. I wouldnt mind him, but the fee would have to be reasonble.

It wont be however as they paid 20 mill rising to 24 or something.

Bent's had the least touches in the league this season.

Yet he has five goals.

It's undeniable he knows where the net is. My only doubt (other than the fee), is whether teams need to set up for him, as opposed to him adapting to their style.

Spurs play in a similar manner to us (pass move & using width), yet he couldn't do it there.

Also Comolli said he can only play upfront alone, so he & Carroll playing together isn't an option.

What was the Cambridge christmas shopping thing?

Fff- in fairness he wasnt given much of a chance a spurs

His rate was roughly 1 in 3 at spurs, and considering he made a lot if suv appearances I don't think he did too bad

Agreed. The thing I like about him though is that he's vety good at staying at the shoulder of the last defender and is very good at timing his runs behind the defence. He's also always in the box. We dont have a player like that.

His attitude and ability to fit into the system are the big question marks, next to the fee ovbs.

If Soldado would cost the same then I know who I'd sign.

He told the club he was sick so couldn't play, but was then pictured buying xbox games whilst they played.

Oh dear

There is a space in-between being too sick to play competitive football at the highest level and being able to go to a shop.

Dont think so tbh, we need another striker regardless. Isnt Kuyt rumoured to be on his way out?

Yeah, apparently that space is called Cambridge

Barnes certainly does not expect to see the 27-year-old sign for the Reds, and does not believe Bent is suited to the style of football Liverpool have adopted under Dalglish.

“It all depends on the way you actually play and you have to play to someone’s strengths,” Barnes told talkSPORT.

“I don’t know if he is the type of player that they want, he likes to be direct, play over the top, run on quickly.

"Liverpool don’t play that way and as good as Darren Bent is a good goal-scorer in the right team, I don’t know whether he’d fit at Liverpool.”

I bet we sign him so.

It's another car crash transfer waiting to happen.

We're literally one of the stupidest fucking clubs in the world if we do this

Hahaha 'literally', ha

Darren fucking Bent ....to play with Stewart Wanking Downing , Andy Cunting Carroll , Jordan Semi Crap Henderson ....exciting stuff . I give up . Are all these short term signings to get us back to the champions league ? Will they be fucked off after and replaced with players who going to help challenge for the league ? Because i doubt they will and i doubt they are good enough for a top top team so what is the point in signing them and what are our aims ? Or what's even scarier , does the club think they are good enough to challenge ?

I don't know who we should sign tbh, but i do know that the next 2 transfer windows will tell us quite a bit about FSG's intentions.

1 or 2 quality players added and it's time to get genuinely excited.
Yesterday evening on Talksh!te, Tony Evans was saying they'll "do whatever it takes" to get us back competing at the top. Unfortunately he also just produced that bullsh!t opinion piece on the Luis Suarez saga, so I'm not majorly encouraged.
Confirming the new stadium rumours and a couple of tasty January signings would go a long way to proving that statement 😉

I can't help but agree.

Bent will cost us £20+million, surely there are better strikers out there for less than that figure?
who aren't 28, moderately talented and English.

Other than Bent who are the candidates?
I'm waiting for Hansern and others to tell us no better strikers are available and willing to join us for the 25m that Bent is going to cost.

It saddnes me, but we're our own worst enemy currently it seems.

June 2007 Darren Bent £16.5 million
July 2008 David Bentley £15 million
August 2008 Roman Pavlyuchenko £14 million
October 2008 Damien Comolli dismissed

For Bent see Carroll. For Bentley see Downing. If he gets the other forward (if any) signing wrong, then it'll mirror the way things ended for him at White Hart Lane, to a certain degree. :-[
