The glass is half full still

When we win things, at least in the last two decades, we've done it the hard way, giving half our fans heart attacks & the chance for our rivals to set themselves up for an even bigger fall by laughing at us seemingly failing before winning at the last.

Now this... I'll go with this.

Absolutely.... when was the last time we strolled to anything with some sort of heart stopping drama.

Its never going to happen, but by god it would be a fitting end to this season if we won both games 9-0.

Seriously though, imagine we go all out in the first 20 as per & get 3 goals.

We'll be fucking hammering at them, knowing that a huge scoreline would shit city up massively ahead of their last two matches.

Not that we will, cos Everton will have already held them to a 2 all draw at goodison on Saturday.

And you know what?

Henderson deserves to be part of the side that finally clinches the league, this had to happen to do that.

It's all written already, destiny.

What sort of atmosphere do you think there'll be at Goodison on Saturday?

Dunno tbh, I reckon maybe a quarter of their fans won't mind if they get beat so much. Doubt it'll be much more than that though, wanting your team to get beaten at home isn't something that comes easy.

Everton game will be weird in that Everton will have nothing to lose whereas City have everything.

They may play with free abandon or just get humped. They wont be doing us any favours but players like winning though.

Same with West Ham.

For what it's worth, I genuinely don't think City won't let this slip now. We had our chance courtesy of Kompany's slice to Coutinho. We've given them their's back.

Whoever wins the league now will deserve to. Unless its the Chavs.

This is how I feel too. We won't get a better chance that this year.
I had an enforced internet silence for a few hours after the game so I didn't behave like a nob.

I think we just need to win the last two games and that's all we can do. If we do, who knows. I get how you're feeling, I really do, but stressing over it, being upset about it is pointless now. That's games gone.

Regards
Steve Peters

With Arsenal winning today, it's highly unlikely they get CL even if they beat City.

Unlikely, but not impossible.

Everton need to best Man City to keep the opportunity alive.

Apart from Hillsborough, yesterday was my worst football day since the Michael Thomas goal. As much as I tried, I couldn't gee myself up or lift the gloom. Later in the afternoon I spent three hours clearing an enormous amount of large tree limbs from my property that snapped in this winter's ice storm. I told myself that we will still have a chance of the Title if I keep working until everything is cleared. I finished in the dark. It also occurred to me how old I was when Liverpool were last Champions and how much pain Liverpool fans have endured since for many reasons.

I then began to believe that there will be another opportunity for us before the end of the season but we have to raise our game and win our last two games convincingly.

During this month the proper Hillsborough inquest heard evidence regarding the youngest victim, Jon-Paul Gilhooley, and this little lad's cousin and our Captain will not ultimately suffer because of yesterday's slip. After his one club career, Brendan Rodgers' superb work and Liverpool's glorious football this season, that would simply be wrong.

It doesn't end here. We go again.

I genuinely believe this.

This season has been fantastic, the best league campaign I can remember, and playing the best football I can remember. If we'd have been offered top 4 at the beginning of the season we'd have bit peoples hands off for it, let alone a shot at the title. It's been brilliant and I hope we can play the same way next season, for a whole season.
It's a bit of a gutter being this close and seeing it potentially snatched from under our noses, but maybe finishing joint top and losing it on goal difference is a phenomenal result considering where we finished last year, and the football we were playing under Dalglish/woy not so long ago.
There's nothing to moan about this season, and we'll finish in the position we deserve, and if leaking too many goals costs us top place, so be it. We'll sort our shit out for next season.

Deeply sad about yesterday. I have so many things that are going on in my life right now, but yesterday - after watching that, there was a moment during a few minutes after a few hours - I felt, if I die I would not give a shit. To be honest with you all - watching the team play such great football this season and smashing the shit out of opponents has bought the only happiness to may life and something to look forward to each weekend.

I still have hope that the title is not lost, for some reason Man City in the last two games seem almost subdued, by opposition that hardly threatened them in both the games they have placed since their draw against Sunderland. I think if a team fights back slightly - they may get a sudden shock - so could be Everton, or could be even West Ham. You never know - I remember Kenny with Blackburn on that last day - we best them, and all United needed was a win ( I think) at West Ham, but despite many chances they could not get that goal. There is also a part of me that fantasises that somehow we will turn up at Crystal Palace, and put 10 past them, and then against Newcastle we score 5 or 6. This season has been fantastic though - we are still in it till the last game which is amazing. It has not fully slipped away all.

Assuming City win all their games with a 2-goal margin on average, it means we'll need 14 goals in total with no reply against Palace and Newcastle to tie them. That's a goal every 12.86 minutes, or an average of 3 to 4 goals every half in each of the next 4 halves, while keeping clean sheets (not doing that means having to score more, obviously).

Put that way - 3 goals every half for the next 4 halves - it doesn't sound as impossible now. However, it's a very, very difficult task, especially against Palace away. We'll need to play at a fast pace and bomb them out in the first half so they can't contemplate coming back in the second, and then go out and bomb them again in the second half.

That means having fresh attacking options ready to come in for the second 45 minutes to keep the pace up. Drop that second CB on the bench, and bring another attack-minded option. If it means having to put a couple of young and inexperienced but energetic U-21s on the bench looking to prove that they belong in next season's squad (e.g. Rossiter, Smith, Teixeira, Dunn), then we'll need to do that.

If we need any inspiration, just go back to December when we blasted Norwich, West Ham and Spurs in 3 consecutive games with 3 halves of 3 goals each (and we actually put 3 past Cardiff in a half after that too). Except that this time, we need to string them together, and that the mentality will be different now - back then, we could score, win and rest - this time, there cannot be any holding back. Score 3, fresh legs, up and at them again.

Daunting? Yes, very. Impossible? Perhaps, but not necessarily.

Lads, if you can Join Dumbledores army when Hodgson was in charge, you can believe we'll win this fecking league, since we are top with two games left!,

This past weekend is going to make the title win allll the sweeter.

When we archive this thread, I'll be taking names on who was a Phoenix rising from the ashes, and who was a bleeding Cassandra.

We're going to win the league lads, you know it's true, hoo.

Indeed.

For two weeks or so the press was sucking us off... talking about Stevie's destiny etc etc... Now they've switched to city's up-swell...

Last time I fucking checked a Game in hand is not quite the same as 3 fucking points...

No pressure you manc twats.... just win all fucking 3 you got left...

Aston Villa
- beat Arsenal 3-1 away
- beat Man City 3-2 home
- drew Liverpool 2-2 away
- beat Chelsea 1-0 home

Everton
- 3 defeats in last 30 league matches at Goodison Park
- last home game of the season against Man City

Fingers crossed...

In a way this is much better... weve blown it so whatever happens is a bonus... ii prefer being the underdog... dogs are hungry....

City cant claim to be chasing us down anymore, everyones got them pencilled in the bunting on the trophy is already sky blue...

Lets go and do Palace and see what happens then.

As a great man once said "we go again".
