Yossi Benayoun has become the latest person to rock the boat at Liverpool by admitting that his future is far from certain.

The Reds have endured a soap opera season, with poor form on the field and endless unrest behind the scenes leading to a failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Manager Rafa Benitez has been persistently linked with Juventus and has refused to dismiss the reports, while co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have put Liverpoolup for sale amid mountains of debt.

Benayoun has now confessed that he does not know if he will still be at Anfield next season as the uncertainty surrounding the club continues to unfold after Sunday's miserable defeat to title-chasing Chelsea.

The midfielder, who has been linked with CSKA Moscow and is not under a long-term contract, said: "It's very difficult to speak now about next season.

"We don't know what changes there will be (in the) players, the staff so I think it's too early to speak.

Retire

"I don't know personally even if I will be here or I will not be here.

"A lot of things can happen, so we have to wait and see."

Israel international Benayoun would like to retire at Liverpool, but he acknowledges that the decision may be taken out of his hands.

"Liverpool is a great club and I enjoy it but a lot of things are happening in this moment," he added.

"If it depended on me, I would stay here and retire in Liverpool.

"The fans are the best in the world but it depends on a lot of things. It will be very clear soon."

Impossible to say. It struck me when I read the "Should I stay or should I go?" thread that most of us wanted to keep most of the current squad despite their having underperformed this season, and I think that's fair enough. Any new manager will want to make some changes, but I don't think there'll necessarily be all that many.

Benny should be just a squad player for us, even if he is a decent one. However if we can get 8-10M for him I'd bite your hand off.

I respectfully disagree, because I can't see us bringing anyone better in for that kind of money. One of Rafa's most persistent mistakes has been moving squad players on but too often not replacing them with greater (or even equivalent) quality in just this price range.

He's just stating the obvious. I don't see how that counts as 'rocking the boat'.

In the timing I guess. Did he really need to say anything about it?

That plus there's been murmurings from his agent about moves to Russia for the past two windows now.

Fair points but he may just be trying to position himself before the anticipated "wind of change" blows through the club. He does make it pretty clear that his preference would be to stay. I for one hope he does.

I really like Yossi, but if we were offered £10m, I think we'd have to take it - simply because of his age. If we give him another two years, he'll have no re-sale value at all.

Yossi's a star in Israel. They ask him for quotes all the time. And as JJ said, he could hardly have been any more definite in stating that he wants to stay. I'd like to hear the same kind of certainty from Torres and Gerrard.

Torres has been pretty clear on how he feels, and it isn't that long ago that Gerrard were talking about what the team needs before next season.

I wouldn't worry to much.

He's 30 yrs old JJ. If we were offered that kind of money there has to a young lad we could get to do a similar (better ?) job.

Possibly, but we'd have to find him and outbid other clubs for him. Yossi's a good player and we'd get well stung for a young lad already at that standard, especially if we get significant investment by then.

I'd rather keep Yossi too. He's not reliant on pace so could probably go on for some years yet.

I think Rafa's drastically under-used a top creative talent.

With new owners we might just do that

If it depended on me, I would stay here and retire in Liverpool.

It seems he's just stating the obvious, "No one knows what is happening with owners and money and I may be sold to raise money for other purchases."

I've said before I have a feeling he might end up leaving this summer and I suppose that if we get a sizeable bid, it'll be hard to turn down given our current predicament.

That said, if we can avoid selling decent players to buy we should be looking to keep him really. He's creative, scores goals and wants to stay.

I think it would be a mistake to sell him tbh. You couldn't easily replace him and he is a good squad player.

Way to miss the point, neil.
[/quote]

naw, I was only messing I totally get what yoosi is saying but I'd rather the players got their heads down and concentrated on their own performances.

I wouldn't sell Yossi unless he was being replaced with a genuine improvement to the first eleven. I see the point about him losing his resale value in a couple years but squad players of his calibre are tough to come by.

I hope he stays as I think under a different manager he could be a really quality player for us if used correctly.

While our squad is skint on quality, Benny Onion stays!

Is this not a repeat of previous comments made when he wasn't getting much game time?

The season's over Neil.

If big name players leave then its nothing short of gutless.

FFS Juventus got relegated to Serie B and everyone but Cannavaro stayed.

Ok its been a rubbish season, a season from hell, but show some loyalty to the club.

*Shit players are exempt from this, they can leave.

It's effectively the end of the season, what's wrong with the timing? Yossi's a great squad player, should keep him in the squad unless we get a great offer from him. Ok, there've been the murmurings but he's come out to say his peference for Liverpool and it's not with the Reira 'flair.'

Thuram, Ibrahimovic, Emerson, and Zambrotta all left because of relegation (Veira also left but that be because Juventus wanted him to go).

Benayoun is always very straight with the press.. Unfortunately this doesnt stop British press cutting and pasting and trying to make a story from nothing..

Benayoun wants to play.. if he doesnt play enough he will look at leaving..if the club doesnt want him.. he will go.

Surely this is the same with every player in the world? but not all of them are honest enough to admit it.
