The Egyptian King

There's definitely flaws, it's not like I'm sitting on inside information. I can only go by what I've seen on TV.
But either way my point has always been that no matter who we bring in he will be a serious downgrade on what we have now. I get their hesitancy over his age, but he is still playing at a very high level and still our most important player. I think he's worth the money it would cost to keep him for what he brings to the team.

I somewhat agree, but its not like we can give him a blank check. None of us know what Salah's people are demanding, but we shouldn't be offering him more than two years.

I agree, but we also have to be realistic that if we want to compete with the top clubs we have to pay top salaries if we want to be trying to win the league(which personally i don't think FSG give a fuck about winning the league, they just care about top 4 so CL money keeps coming in). De bruyne is on 400k a week and i think he's either the same age or older than salah. Haaland is about to get a ridiculously high new contract. You want the best players you have to pay top wages. How many right wingers out there are better than salah? But i agree only a two year deal because of his age.

Yeah I mean it's a business. Winning trophies is just a bonus I guess.

It's more than that though. A club which drops out of consistent contention for the biggest prizes is likely to lose customers.

Another goal and another assist.

That’s the 34th league game he’s done that in.

Only Rooney has done it more times at 36.

Apparently though he’s a weak link in our attack while Jota and Chiesa sit on the treatment table, Nunez can’t find his shooting boots and Gakpo blows hot and mostly cold in front of goal.

He's the epitome of a forward who can play shite and still get the numbers. Good for him.

I mentioned something after the Bologna game about why he rarely wins free kicks. It’s was all to see at the end of today’s game. He gets into fights with the defenders when he doesn’t need to do it. Backs in and backs in then falls down. Usually we only see the fall down on tv. Not Salah initiating it. It infuriated me.

On Mohamed Salah's moving up to joint ninth in the Premier League goalscoring list.

Mo Salah will have an eye on Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard.

I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool.

These are things which get the juices flowing for Salah.

Mohamed Salah has scored 162 Premier League goals. Thierry Henry has scored 175 whilst Frank Lampard has scored 177 Premier League goals.

He wasn't shite, if you thought he was shite after that game against a quality side where some things came off, some didn't. I saw some lovely interplay and balls bringing others into play. Think maybe get some new specs. As a RW then you are going to get involved in physical battles, it's impossible to avoid a footballer at most levels.

He does it every time though.

He won a few, he beat his man a few times and that quick turn still works. Not as effective as it was but then he is 32. Surely you can recognise, that pass to Jones for the goal was sensational. Whom else apart from Trent can play something like that ?

He hit a couple of those today actually. Great game

I still think the fact he looks more like a French deli owner than a footballer is part of his arsenal. Defenders still look at him and think "here comes the frog cheese merchant, what harm can he possibly do?" And before you know it he's scored.

I haven’t said he was shite or anything about his overall game today. I was pointing out that shit he does pisses me right off. It was the late 80s of game at 2-1 with a gobshite ref. His antics basically gave the ball straight back to the opposition. It’s something he doesn’t have to do yet drags himself down to it. For every time it works 6 fail. So stop doing it.

You know what's disappointing?

Robbie managed to score 163 goals despite his fitness issues and injuries. With better managers, physios and possibly a better attitude he'd have easily scored another 100.

I wasn't suggesting you were the one whom said it was rubbish but just an odd game to pick out Salah, I thought he was excellent even neutrals can see the value in his general game today. Some other games maybe but today he was involved throughout. That pass to Jones was just brilliant alone, critical point in the game. Jones comes in from deep and asks for the ball to be played into exactly in the position he wants it and Salah delivers. He also had the shot for the Jones penalty.

I thought Mo was poor in the first 20-25 mins or so but grew into the match. Took the penalty well and had an excellent match from there. The ball for Jones' goal was inch perfect.
Yeah he was, I thought was going to be one of those games where their defenders would have the better of him and he would look non effective. Colwill had the better of him then suddenly started looking ragged for a period of 20 mins in 1st half, thought he should have taken the shot on for the penalty call but wasn't clear on TV whether he was waiting for contact or Colwill just went into the back of him.

Gusto v Salah was a good battle, tactical move by Maresca to put a right footed on his side to prevent him cutting in, never got close to him for the cross to Jones. Was hoping to see Gakpo take the opportunity but he didn’t do anything positive which was disappointing.

Mo was noticeably sharper today - is it the case that the extra rest due to missing the national team game led to a better performance? If so, Slot has some decisions to make…

Yeah… like who to beg Hughes to sign to replace Cheesie.. the perma-crocked Italian duffer!!!

I remember just how much work rate Mo put in during out 18/19 and 19/20 seasons - it was that of a man who knew that those small margins could be the difference between winning the PL/CL and not.

Not only is he putting in the numbers, but he's putting in serious work rate - I think he believes this is our season. I also think this is and will rub off on others in the squad.
