The Donkey

Darwin Nunez: "I went to bed many times with an empty stomach, but the one who went to bed that way the most was my mother. Whenever there was a lack of food, my mother would give us hers. I always said that if I managed to become a professional footballer, with enough money to buy a property, I would gift her a new house.

My father worked in construction, and when I didn't have boots to play football, he would try to find something so I could go to training and play the game. He had to work nine hours to buy me something and to provide for us. My mother would always go out to the streets to sell bottles. I grew up in a poor neighborhood, played barefoot, and have broken more than one toe.

When I arrived at Almería, that’s what I did: I bought six hectares of land and arranged it for her. I will never forget where I come from..."

He’s been mentioned in a few threads but maybe they should be in here.

His time here is done isn’t it? The pathetic way he was holding his face yesterday forcing van Dijk to kick the ball out. Unforgivable.

He’s offering nothing of note. He’s right up there with aquilani and Keita for expensive flops. More expensive than the best Amsterdam whore after too many intoxicating goods which keeps it from performing.

Our players didn't even bother putting the ball out because they knew he was playacting.

For a few games I’ve noticed players refusing to play him through on goal too. It’s obvious they don’t back him to score. He’ll know they are ignoring him and it’s a vicious cycle from there.

It’s time for him to move on i feel.

Lol, I noticed how Szobo didn't even bother passing him the ball at times.

We are playing him deeper, presumably to stop him making idiotic runs offside. Which has worked. However he doesn't have the creativity, first touch or passing skill in order to be able to do anything deeper.

I wonder who was the main culprit behind his transfer... it was obvious pretty much from day 1 that we'd fucked up.

Anyways, yes. Get rid and replace with someone good.

Same last sentence hopefully applies to the scout who pushed to sign him

darwin pulled off the ultimate shop window fraud against us in the CL, either that or some peak fernando torres ringer in a darwin suit took the field

when will we learn not to get a boner for players who have their best ever games against us

Klopp, it's pretty obvious. Then Lijnders got in his ear along with the players

People are blaming Szobo for this, but I agree with this analysis - it looks more like a mistimed run by Nunez. He saw the space and ran full speed into it, not taking into account that Szobo was not likely to pass the ball first time in that situation. It was Mbappe-like overeagerness coupled with too much pace.

Szobo really should have given it earlier, not sure why he did not. Nunez was well on for a one on one on goal. I fault Szobo here - he should have released it and Nunez run was excellent. By going out the left, he allowed 7 Southampton players to get behind the ball within seconds. Poor decision making by Szobo

Nah. That was on Szobo - he should have just curled it Mo.-esque into his path. He left it too late.

Yeah szobo had ages to pass it and didn't. Nunez would have comfortably been away if szobo didn't hesitate. Yes at that moment Nunez mistimed his run, but what about the previous 3 seconds where szob could have released him?

Nunez was onside for a long time after his initial run too. But the team has no interest in giving him the ball. It’s hard to change that so we need Jota & Danns as back up if we want the team to actually play strikers in when they have run at goal.

Nah, I don't agree. We're 3 against 2 and there is no reason to play the ball first time and early. That badly timed run from Darwin just takes him out of the equation and the defenders aren't even following him. If he stays on the shoulder of the last defender for a bit longer it will open up even more as we have both defenders running towards their own goal.
Just poor football intelligence in general. Which is a major flaw in his game.

this is the darwin cycle. everyone is on his case, it reaches fever pitch and then he has a worldy performance he’s going to live off for the next 18 months
