The Donkey

I've been patient, 'coz he cares and he tries, but, after that shitshow tonight, I'm done with him. Sell him for anything that anybody would be stupid enough to give us for him. He missed from ON THE FUCKING LINE tonight. Fuck this noise. Enough's enough.

Carragher said when asked about Nunez’s future at Liverpool: “I’m not sure he’s here next year, I think he’ll probably move on. He’s more like a cult hero because he’s a bit mad and he likes to run around, but he’s better than [Divock] Origi.”

Is he though?

There are fewer and fewer.

I like him, and he's trying in this role, in that other one, and now in this one. He's really trying, and he can play a part this season, but it's not going to work out.

Divock Origi was an actual cult hero, not what you call someone who some people hope will come good.
He's shite, and even worse I switch from anger at how bad he is to pity.

Slot will cull him, no doubt. The Dutch fans said he's ruthless when it comes to selling and there's zero doubt he's not meeting internal expectations. The writing has been on the wall since Jota started every game ahead of him at 9 and since then Diaz has also been preferred.

He's had enough patience and love from the fanbase and the club. The one thing in our favour from a settling POV is the striker marker remains pretty barren so we should get an alright fee.

I don't blame Nunez at all for not getting the touch on the Gakpo header - it was too far ahead of him simple as. It's stupid to berate him for that.

However overall I'm done too. I don't think it's going to work out for him at Liverpool, more's the pity because he has a great work ethic but he simply doesn't score enough as a #9 and Slot is not going to accept that and nor should we. He's gone next Summer.

Imagine Nunez playing instead of Origi in that semifinal against Barcelona.

That should answer your question.

I think yesterday just highlighted the difference in what a quality striker given you. Isak for Newcastle and Darwin for us. Isak, scoring goals, creating chances and focal point. Then you have Darwin who seem out of sync with the rest of the team. Missing chances, poor passes in the final third and making us even more reliant on Mo.

We need to sell and bring in an upgrade. Yes he works hard but there is nothing else there. A striker must be top of the list.

he’s stringing together a long run of average performances and contributing very little. i’m absolutely amazed we signed him to be honest, he didn’t look technically up to the job from day one.

last night wasn’t his fault per se but like @Hansern says a better striker could win those games for you.

its just getting boring now darwin bashing, i get no pleasure moaning about him. thankfully it seems that slot might have a plan to end this.

Agreed, its getting boring.
He's only playing right now because Jota is injured.

I was wondering during the game yesterday - how much of a loss are we going to have to take on him?

Apparently, after all the extras etc we spent about 80M euros. Would we get takers for half that?

Yeah - I think i'm mostly done with Nunez. He had some good spells in the last two games, but he is possibly getting worse at anything involving instinct, which is what we all used to say was fine. The classic "he's better when he doesn't have to think"

Well he's always offside when there's not even an advantage to gain from being there. He has had quite a few close range chances that he snatches at and wastes.

We have gotten ourselves into a great position but we are going to piss it away if we keep playing Darwin at 9 whilst Jota is a sicknote. FFS.

I do think this summer Nunez needs to go and we bring in 2 forwards. We cannot rely on Jota so if he's surplus then fine, otherwise he can be 3rd choice

I think we could realistically get £50–55 million, though that’s based on absolutely nothing. My main hope is that the club doesn’t overvalue him. Slot needs cash, but he also needs flexibility to shape this Liverpool side. The squad is already stacked in terms of numbers, so it’s not just about the money—it’s about freeing up positions and creating space for a player who fits Slot’s vision better. That’s worth sacrificing a few extra million for.

Admittedly, that might be a hard sell to the lizards, but perhaps they can console themselves by buying an orphanage on the cheap, shutting it down, and converting them into poorly maintained flats to get their fix back. Gakpo could act as consulate to help to realise the vision. There's also plenty of calling for donkeys at Christmas. Maybe we can hire him out and cash in that way.

So. Do we try and do a joelinton and move him back a little? His passing range is alright, his work rate is excellent and he's not scared of putting a challenge in

Weirdly, I’m in no particular rush to sell “expensive Origi”, but we probably have to.

Is there an argument that it’s the role and we aren’t going to get a goalscorer to fill that position as there are other facets that are more important?

It’s not really a rich market for central-focused forwards at the minute - I’d almost worry we end up with someone worse.

Its a no from me. AM is one of only three positions (LW and LB the others) that Slot has two players he is happy to rotate.

Tbh id take someone "worse" providing they were at least consistent. Nunez is so up and down it's impossible to play with him it seems

A bog standard 6 or 7 out of 10 every week is better than Nunez 2 -10 range

Always difficult to sell a player with high wages from the PL to other leagues. I think he could do well again in Spain but there arent many teams that can afford him.

He has the look and style of an Atletico Madrid player but they are sadly well stocked.

He has to be sold though. Take the loss and hit.

Have backed Nunez a lot but what annoyed me most yesterday wasn’t the chances he missed because the one he was a yard out was just a whisker away but his general hold up play yesterday and workrate, his passihg was off and there was a lack of care to it. Gakpo, Diaz do my nut in too. The strikers need refreshing and we should have done it this summer by selling and buying one of them. Edwards must be biggest ghost employee ever.

I suggested it a while back. Looks like he’s evolving (no pun intended) into that kind of player.
