The Donkey

Can I be honest - the Luton, and the self-created chance against that European team were his really bad misses this season. But do you guys honestly think the other chances he has had have been so easy that you expect him to score those goals ? I can forgive the one-on-one, I thought the header he missed was bad, but he was slipping up all over the place today. I have faith in him because of the fear and worry he puts into defenders.

He had six misses tonight - six good chances

but he set up the first goal, scored v Burnley and has set up numerous other goals. He’s contributing but let’s face it our expectations are too high. He’s going to miss chances. We need better

but for this season this is what we’ve got. I think we all know what he is. We’ll be excited some weeks and infuriated in others. We’ve got 5 more months of it

I did have a lot of hope for Darwin at the start, the chaotic energy was there and it felt like great things could come. But my worry is that what we currently see is what we’re going to get from him, i.e. massive frustration 75% of the time, acceptable goal scoring without setting the world alight 20% of the time and something outstanding the last 5%.

If somehow he manifests into a Bobby type player whos team contribution is so good it excludes him from the normal metrics strikers are judged by then great. I don’t think he has that up his sleeve though.

He does have some great coaches on his side but l just hope its not a case of what Paul Scholes thinks about Pogba, a player that won’t learn and will still be doing the same things in 10 years time.

If you can't see what he is by now you never will. Plenty of people on here voiced their concerns before he was signed, they've been proven right.

Hes not good enough technically or tactically to lead the line for us. You could see it on his face when ge came off tonight, he was dejected but also he had nobody to blame but himself. That was the sort of opportunity strikers dream about, full house at home top of the league and chances on a plate. He stank the place out through a combination of bad decision making and terrible execution. Whether or not he's moved on this summer probably comes down to whether or not we can find someone willing to pay £50m for him

If we had a striker who scored, no-one would give 2 shits about his build-up play. The amount of chances we create, a top striker would be getting 20+ goals like a casual wank here. Ian Rush would score 50 every season playing with this team. He'd do fuck all else but he'd score 50. 50 fuckin goals. That's what strikers do. We all love Nunez nuisance value but, you know ... the onion bag is still the main adjudicator.

If we swapped Isak for Nunez that game would have finished 7-1

And why it’s a joke that anyone wants rid of Salah!

It always popped in my mind when I watched Lewandowski, who is an amazing player by the way. He's the modern Rushie. Ian Rush would have outscored Lewandowski if he was playing now, because he was EVEN MORE lethal. And he was ours.

Alright Larry lad, there's s being nice and there's getting scary.

Anyways I'm glad we're all finally agreed that Darwin is fucking wank. What happens now? Someone takes him round the back of the forum and shoots him and we win the league?

Klopp: "Nobody has to worry about Darwin. He is fine. Played a really good game. Decided the game with an unselfish pass to Mo." (Sky

Klopp on Darwin Núñez's frustrations:

"I dunno what you are really talking about. Of course he is not happy not scoring. I saw him on the bench. I saw him involved. It was nail biting around the VAR decisions. Football is a pretty simple game, put the ball in the back of the net, besides that the boys have to do a lot of stuff. We were talking outside, it was 100% the right decision to bring Darwin today because he kept Botman and Schar together, that game us the space for everything else. It is completely different if Cody is there." (Sky)

Klopp on Darwin Núñez: "We needed him there. As long as Darwin has all these moments today which he has today, it is all fine. I don't know exactly what amount of goals he has scored in the season but a lot, Darwin will score and there is no doubt about it. The only problem is if the public wouldn't watch us, it is all fine. Because then it is just he is doing right and he has to start again and again. He gets questioned on social media and that disturbs slightly." (Sky)

Klopp on Salah and Núñez: "Mo is a goal scoring machine. It would have helped if he scored the first penalty to be completely honest but it is all fine. That's how it is, he will never stop doing these things. He is special. Darwin had a couple of chances, in this moment I would say 99.9% of players would have tried to finish it themselves but he squares the ball. It is really special. Wow." (Sky)

[Squawka] Darwin Núñez accumulated 1.61 Expected Goals during his 64 minutes against Newcastle, the most without scoring by a player in a single Premier League game this season.

Lowlights:

He's clearly affected by those misses. Looks like he's afraid to miss and is just trying to get the shots on goal. Most of his shots are straight at the keeper. Could be a lack of confidence thing.

He becomes more and more like an expensive replacement for Origi every day.

Except he scores less.

I don’t dislike Darwin. - he’s out of form - he needs dropping to the bench to come on late and just run at teams for 30 mins and get a few more Newcastle performances under his belt.

We can’t keep persisting with him through the middle if he’s playing so badly.

Agent of chaos is some seriously cringey teenager shit

Serious question, when in the last 18 months has he been 'in form'? I don't mean played well for 30 mins, but had a prolonged period where he was consistently performing well. I can't think of one.

Nunez on the right while Salah is away makes more sense.
His best display by a mile was in that space vs Newcastle away.
Yep.

Listening to Klopp and commentators like Burley and Melchiot you can see why he starts games regardless of whether he's scoring (and he does need to put more away - for his confidence as much as anything). All mentioning how his runs, physical power and especially speed cause such issues for the defence and open upo space for others (Mo. & DIaz) to utilise. I don't think that should be underestimated (and many here are) especially when we are only 3 behind City on goals scored (+1 game) and 6 more than Arsenal).

It's the overall GD that matters and we have conceded 2 less than anyone else (3 less than City having played a game more) and everyone always states that titles are won by the defence and games by the attack. Well we are well on our way.

Free header? Have you ever played football?
Yeah even the commentators said it was no more than a half chance at best. He actually got a fair few on target yesterday - a bit more luck, or good goalkeeping, and he'd have had a couple. If he keeps hitting the target (I think he's improving in that regard, I don't see as many wild shots) he'll score enough over the season. However it's the overall contribution that's important - see my other post on comments by Klopp, Burley etc.

I'm pretty sure you said the same thing about Gakpo and Diaz too. Yet here we are with one of the best goals scoring records and top of the PL.
Impossible to say if that would have been the case if he didn't start however it seems most want to change a winning team.
