The Donkey

When he was little they thought they could help with a little operation but it backfired and only made him more offside

Not only does Nunez need more service, he nedds better service, and he needs to be released quicker.. You can see this in the West Ham game

I'm all for keeping him at LW for the time being. Having Gakpo central to link up play gives us stronger attacking platform.

We also looked loads better dropping the inverted fullback and actually playing with width. I know West Ham were shit, but we were very good.

Jones being better than Mac also helped things.

Wouldn’t go that far, but West Ham was the first game in ions that we had consistent combinations and interplay down our left, with Jones and Nunez the key instigators. Unfortunately with Diaz in current form, the attacks regularly slow down or break down as soon as he gets the ball - it was refreshing to see our left side working for once.

I fear he's one of those players who is great instinctively.

However more than a touch.. all bets are off.
When I saw his highlights reel before we signed him I always feared that but fuck me the aerial service has been rubbish this season. He could easily be banging in a few headers with better service as it’s always first time with your head.

Right, i know i'm one of his biggest critics but i still believe there's something inside him that has not been unlocked yet, and it's not so much as technical but more of a mental thing. I'm convinced once he feels fully settled culturally, linguistically, and everything else....he'll unlock beast mode. We've seen glimpses of it but he still doesn't know how to harness it. With the right guidance, it'll come. I say give him a full season.

And if it was up to me, i'd play him as a wing-forward. Like Henry.

Also, what a bunch of nice lads they are. Especially Gakpo. I have to admit - it brought me a big smile and i almost welled up towards the end.

Merry Christmas everyone.

The only good use of xG is comparing a player's stats to the mean. I only found out yesterday that Nunez has scored lower than his xG in every season. Even in his season at Benfica when he scored loads an average striker would have scored more. Expecting him to get better is blind faith at this stage... Although I'm guilty of it too, as it all looks like it should work.

Why did Klopp have to change things around from the West Ham game?
Gakpo in the middle and Nunez on the left was working!

Because rotation is what you do when you have 3 games in a week and Diaz was the fresher man. These guys need to play their way back into form, not dropped and wasted.

Yes but this was arguably the most important match of the season so far....
Perhaps.

My point is it doesn’t matter whether the front 3 is Salah Nunez Diaz, Salah Nunez Gakpo or Salah Diaz Gakpo , none of it is working right now. We didn’t play particularly bad yesterday and it was always going to be a tight even game.

I genuinely don't care how fresh Diaz is. He's fucking muck.

Szobo and Jones both played West Ham…both incredible. Both play Arsenal and both below par. This is how the season is going with everyone not named Ali or Virgil.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Trent and Szobo were on the pitch together

This is the key part

Szobo was great midweek when he had Elliott wide, who actually wants to interplay, and a fullback who he didn't have to babysit.

I'm also going to ignore the fact binomial said Jones wasn't good against arsenal, because he was excellent at retention and always provided an option and was the wrong option to be subbed

The freshest winger we have is surely kaide Gordon. Cunts had 2 years off. Give him the nod ahead of Diaz for arsenal if "freshness" is paramount.

It's a bullshit argument. You start your best against the best and risk management against the rest.

Jones was very good imo.
