The deadline weekend thread ...

Jones must really rate himself.

I don't think the club can win, if we do deals late people moan that they should have been done earlier.

If we do deals early, there's nothing left to get excited about late in the window.

I think there's a few twists and turns left, but unless Suarez leaves I'm not expecting much.

I wouldn't rule out the latter yet, I think we should brace ourselves for a transfer request, and in light of the game we have on Sunday, I think that'd be a real kick in the teeth for Rodgers. You'd think with everything that's gone on we'd be doing what we can to make him stay in terms of buying big.

I really don't get the attraction with Kelly, he's always struck me as a bit average, his position sense on the right is piss poor and I'm missing what everyone else seems to see with regards to him being a potential longterm centre back.
Big, strong, quick, good stamina and a product of the academy.
I know that's not enough to be first choice at a club like Liverpool, but I still hope he can improve his game intelligence and do what Carra did for his career. He's more blessed than Carra in the physical area so who knows. I also like his new shit hair.

I think he had all that and that's why people said he could play centre back, he has all the raw attributes, but he's getting older and his injuries aren't getting any better. He needed to be fit consistently around the age of 18-20 and maybe go out on loan, instead he seems to have been bypassed. It's a shame but I think it's resulted in his development halting completely.

Just as an aside, if Mr Rodgers knew money too tight to mention and still spent 30m (if we sign this CB Illori) on players that dont improve the starting 11 of our best side its an utter fucking shambles.

There are three ends to this.
1.We sign a TOP player or two to improve the first 11 and help us win the league - NO ONE IS A DICK
2.We dont sign anyone else and Mr Rodgers KNEW he wouldnt be able to - MR RODGERS IS A DICK
3.We dont sign anyone else and Mr Rodgers is left hanging because he was told we would - THE BOARD IS A CUNT.

Hopefully 1.

I don't think FSG realistically expect us to finish in the top 4 - they're just pandering to the media and the fans somewhat. They're probably still banking on FFP to kick in and even the playing field somewhat over the next few years at which point our investment in youth will pay off.

I'm not so sure it will though because everyone is investing in young players these days and in the case of the top teams it's likely that their collection of youngsters will be better than ours.

What are the odds of FSG looking for a buyer if FFP proves ineffectual?

Two good CB's coming in by the looks of it. If we could get a top notch midfielder to replace Lucas Id be happy with that.

Ilori and Sakho on the way. Given as back up to Mignolet looks on. Moses on loan seem to be on the cards aswell.
Brazilian journos claim we've signed Danilo (17 year old dm) from Vasco.

Skrtel will probably leave if both Ilori and Sakho arrives.

4 in and 1 out for the first team then imho. Hoping for a quality signing aswell attacking wise.

If we get a couple of good CBs and maintain the rest of our play from last season, however flawed in places, we'll end up with more points. I just hope they are good, and I really hope our defensive coaching improves as well.

Rodgers is going about this the right way, prioritizing the attack and defense first. Adding Ilori and Sakho transforms the side more than a better midfielder can, IMO.

Lucas should benefit tremendously from playing alongside the two. Both add plenty of pace, height, and in Sakho's case, power. A centre half pairing of the god-man Toure and Sakho, for instance, would go a long way in freeing up some of Lucas' defensive responsibilities, enabling him to push up in the opposition's half, and keeping him closer to the centre circle where he usually does his best work.

Except Lucas' main job is covering for Glenjo

Will Sakho and Toure stop him being shit at tackling? If so, I'm in.

Johnson could definitely do with some competition -- and pronto. Hopefully Kelly can stay fit and challenge him once more, since we don't seem to be looking for right backs anytime soon.

Those mistimed tackles and niggly fouls should be less frequent since that pairing can take care of themselves better defensively. And if Lucas pushes up more, the fouls will be committed higher up the pitch.

Its pretty clear at this stage that Mr Rodgers sees the defense as our weak link.
Mignolet
Toure
Cissokho
Sakho
Given
Ilori
Pretty clear message to the current incumbents that they are shite and needed replacing.
I guess he is thinking we scored loads but didnt keep enough clean sheets.

It seems a little odd that we're signing two central defenders.

That'd leave us with 6 on the books or 5 if you ignore Coates because he's crocked.

Something has got to give, right?

Agger to Barca? Skrtel to Napoli?

Hopefully if we do sign IIori he goes straight back out on loan because paying 7M to ruin another young defender would be very annoying.

[article=http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11848/8897290/transfer-news-athletic-bilbao-reject-manchester-united-bid-for-ander-herrera]Athletic Bilbao say they have turned down an offer from Manchester United for midfielder Ander Herrera.

Club president Josu Urrutia claims a firm bid for the 24-year-old was lodged on Thursday and immediately dismissed.

And Urrutia says the only way Herrera will leave the club is if he demands a move and his release clause - reported to be £30.75m - is met.[/article]

I know this is slightly out of context, but seeing as we are about to pay £7M for a defender that we should probably loan out first Season INSTEAD of spending £2M more and get a player like Eriksen, who'd walk into our team and make us better instantly is absolutely mind-boggling.

And insanely stupid too, borderline embarrassing.

I want this window to shut sooner rather than later, as all it does is making me more frustrated by the hour.

Btw have we bought Given? Completely missed that.

PS I know nothing of Ilori but I hope he's a star of the future do we buy him.

It's ok mate, you'll get through this. We're here for you.

Liverpool Expected to Make Ambitious Bid for Brazilian Playmaker Kaka

Anfield side target Real Madrid midfielder.

Liverpool are reportedly readying a surprise bid for Real Madrid playmaker Kaka according toSports Direct News.
Brendan Rodgers is expected to make an offer for the 31 year old Brazilian who is little more than a bit-part player at the Bernabeu and could well be tempted by a move to the Premier League before the transfer window slams shut.
Kaka was already playing a greatly limited role at Real Madrid and the summer signing of Isco will further hamper his chances of making an impact, even under his former AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti. Last term the former World Footballer of the Year was handed just 12 La Liga starts and hasn’t figured at all in the club’s opening fixturesof 2013/14, signalling his career at the club being all but over.
Brendan Rodgers has adopted a youthful transfer policy but may feel that the chance to add balance with the purchase of an experienced campaigner such as Kaka is too good an opportunity to pass up.
Kaka has already publicly stated his intention to leave Real Madrid, announcing;
“now is the right moment for me and for the club for me to leave amicably”.
With Coutinho and Lucas Leiva at the club Rodgers may feel his pursuit of another Brazilian could well be a successful one.
Prior to his move to Real Madrid Kaka had become a world beater at the San Siro, winning Serie A, Champions League and Super Cup titles at the Italian club but his move to the Spanish capital has been something of a failure.
Injuries and average form have led Kaka’s career to stall and a move to Anfield could be a chance to help re-ignite the Real Madrid attacking midfielder’s fortunes.

BBC says that Sakho can play at left back. If he is any good there it might be slightly less stupid

Kala available for free then? Shame he's a bit shite and earns 200k a week.
Still, it is Kaka..
