It's a crying Shame that it Cannot keep its best players. The Premier League seems to be a stage for development for these players and soon as the are regarded as a Tier 1 Worldy they feck off..

3 of the 4 best players in the world have left the PL for Spain, Ronaldo, Bale and soon to be Suarez.

What needs to change for the premier league to keep hold of the world's best players ?

For the Record, I reckon in the next few years Sterling will be the next player to go...

If Coutinho can fulfill some of his potential next season I reckon he will be the one being tempted away from us next summer.

More hot Latin women, the UK adopts Spanish as it's national language, seed clouds so they drop their load over the ocean and not the UK, global warming to add 10C to the average temperatures in the UK, income tax to be a fixed rate 30% for high earners, a new no speed restriction autobahn a la Mad Max, the city of Liverpool to change it's name to New Barcelona and London to become New Madrid.

1.start prefixing club names with Real
2. start speaking Spanish
3. change the world's weather so that we can get more sun

I think the reality is that we're unlikely to hold onto these types of players.

Another way of looking at it is that the Premier League has never really had the more glamorous world superstars - they all played in Italy or Spain with perhaps Henry being the main exception. In England we relied more on home grown stars like Gerrard, Owen, Scholes.

United, Arsenal, and us need to be bought out by free spending oil billionaires who can manipulate FFP.

That's all it would take, and I'm sure it'll happen at some point.

Better climate.
Higher wages.
Lower tax.
In CL every season.
Tapas.

I'd be extremely surprised if most of the high-earning footballers don't have their money invested in tax-avoidance schemes, so would lower taxes really make *that* much difference?

I was just thinking about this the other day, and was hoping other saner people would see it too.

Its brilliant and serves English football right. After their disgusting moral crusade against Suarez, they deserve a league full of Danny Welbecks.

I think what Keni says is right (as always). Throughout the years, the stars have always been based abroad. Climate and culture I'd say are the main factors that allow the leagues abroad to be seen as more glamorous. I don't think that's something that will ever change.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are just more elite clubs than anyone in England. I think there's a general feeling across the world that as player you have 'made it' once you play for either of them two.

True, but it used to be Italian teams in the 80s and 90s.

Of course, Italy is still a much nicer place to live than England, and has the connections to Argentina, where quite a lot of the world's very best come from, so there is that advantage.

That is another important reason tbh. Most of the biggest stars tend to come from South America, and they have a natural connection to the Spanish and Italian cultures. Maybe it'd be a different story if it was India or even China producing most of the best players.

It is a shame as it is pure bollocks if you look at the Spanish league - generally it is more like the Scottish league with just two main teams for the title. Although in recent years Barca/Real Madrid have done well in Europe that has not been the case. I think the best way to overcome the issue is to ensure that we stay strong in Europe and that also means that we qualify every year for the CL. Perhaps there is a feeling that because it is so much harder to compete in this league for the top prizes - it is an easier option to win things playing for those two clubs abroad.
