I was replying to the one above that

That was true.

We played without the likes of Skrtel, Agger, Magic, Gerrard, Masher, Kuyt and for 45 minutes Torres.

They did ok the lads outthere didn't they?

I thought Poulsen was very good second half. He hasn't kicked a ball since the world cup and that needs to be remembered when assessing his impact. I had no problem with him at all.

Not really.

We had a good spell at the start of the second half otherwise it was pretty drab stuff

We played at home against a team who only qualified for the Europa League by winning some tin pot cup in Turkey. Not France Germany Italy Spain or even England. we should beat them at home 10000 times out of 10000, even with Hodgson up front.

IT's still early season and most games in Europe at this stage can be dificult.

Young Boys 3 Spurs 2
Wien 1 Villa 1
Cypres-team 0 Strongest City XI 1

Turkish football is better than Suiss, Austrian and Cypriotic and they all struggled too.

Tonight was ok. Nothing more but ok especially without a handful of keyplayers.

I don't really understand why people are getting het up about tonight. We are clearly using the games as pre-season fitness exercises and nothing else. Poulsen, Babel, Torres, Aurelio and Maxi have barely kicked a ball this pre-season zones are playing them in a competition we clearly aren't that arsed about. Who expected cohesion and wonderplay?
We won, we got some fitness in and no one got injured. Onwards and upwards.

In the first half Poulsen looked like Lucas Mk.II. However I think it may have been debut nerves because he was much better in the second half.

It wasn't surprising that it was a disjointed performance as so many of the players were strangers to each other. I'm not that worried we only won 1-0 because my overall feeling was that Trabzonspor aren't good enough to put us out of the competition in the second leg.

plus it wouldn't surprise me if gerrard was on the bench next time as an insurance policy

Finally some proper perspective.

We won and that's all that matters. Poulsen is making hid debut today, and he has already proven he is a better option than Lucas. He even scored a goal that was disallowed and distributed the play reasonably well. So, to sum up - a decent debut for a dm. Calling him names is bang out of order.

That said- if Masher goes, I'd look at another CM like Defour.

Aquilani also needs to be sold if he is not going to be relied on. We can't afford to have any non performing assets.

I thought Poulsen looked very composed second half and moved the ball well. He was poor first half but lets not forget he's had 20 minutes pre-season and is new to the club as well. I think he'll do OK but it is still early days. He's not much pace though.

I agree. Encouraging performance.

In his current role I'd rather give Spearing another go than Lucas. Seriously. I thought he looked quite lively when he came on the other week. A bit of burst to his play and sharp passes.
[/quote]

Id rather play with Lucas or even 10men aslong as that cunt spearing is nowhere near our 1st team. He is SHITTER than SHIT.

As for Poulsen, yeah 1st half he didnt play that well.. but 2nd half he came out and showed what he is capable of. It was his 1st game for ages so i think people should give him more time before calling him shit

I think in the first half Poulsen tried to be a litte more adventurous in his passing, which was nice to see, but was a bit rusty and misplaced them a lot, which was not so great.

Seemed like second half he tried to keep it simple and stuck to getting his foot in and playing it short.

Which is fair enough on the night. Hopefully as he gets more games and settles a bit more he'll demonstrate that he's got a decent range of passing.

Overall, I think his performance was fairly poor (as was most of the team's) - but put into context of it being his first game for the club, and first game in ages, I think signs were relatively positive.

It's totally unfair to make any kind of real judement on last night, let's see what he's like when he's got more games under his belt
