It wasn't like he had much of a choice Sheik, £30M this summer for a want away player who had re-discovered form (no saying he would have played as well this year, he may have gone into sulk mode again) or £10M next year. Given our transfer budgets, he made the right call. His decisions to buy shite like Lucas and Babel is biting him in the arse though.

Yes it was Froggy. He simply had to say no, you're not leaving. I think Alonso would have been professional enough to play to the best of his ability, especially seeing how it's world cup year.

Rafa takes the piss with no changes until the 73rd minute to be brutally honest
when a perforomance is that bad he has to show more urgency and leadership from the bench, at least a change at halftime if we're down or relatively early in the 2nd half if it looks as lifeless as the first half. he has to give us a chance of getting back into it

What I meant was the decision was made for him. In the end whether Rafa wanted him to stay or not the decision was out of his hands. 30M is a lot of cash for a player who last season we couldn't get 15M for.
IMO it was not the decision to sell him that I dispute .. it was not releasing that cash to Rafa to strengthen the squad. Another 30M would have gone a long long way.

I hate to be a DB about this, but I say this not just because of our league position, but how we got there. Defense is a shambles, if anyone in CM gets an injury we are done, etc. Aquaman basically has to hit the ground running and have the best ever debut season for a foreign player for us to stand a chance, I think.
