Arsenal have released 14 players - including Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastian Squillaci - and retained 55, according to a list published by the Premier League.

no he isnt, however he's the kind of DM that would improve a lot of teams, ours included

He can be very dominant in midfield but he gives the ball away too much, his problem isn't where he plays it's whats going on between his ears.

It's mental to think of ditching Mata immediately, what boxes is he not checking for Mourinho?

He has looked quite good in midfield and would defo improve us, no doubt about it. He would cost shitloads though and the improvement/cost ratio wouldn't be very good.

(and of course we'd have zero chance of getting him anyway)

Maybe he's too close to Casillas?

Mata - in a heartbeat.

Luiz - wouldn't even think about it.

Luiz could become a great player, he already is getting there, I don't know why people are so dismissive of him. I think it's fair to say that he's not yet found his best position, as he's often looked suspect at centre back, but he's just had a very good season.

The prices quoted have been around £30m. Even if he was interested we'd be crazy to pay even close to that for a player like him.

Luiz has bags of ability, but I think he has a problem with concentration. He can do whatever he wants to with the ball but, whether at the back or in midfield, he's too easily bypassed by player or ball when on the back foot. Unless/until he can get a grip on this tendency of his I reckon he'll remain a luxury player, and we need more consistency than he currently provides.

I wasn't really talking about us buying him, just this notion that he's shit. He's not. I agree with JJ though, his concentration levels are a big issue.

He's a shit defender.
Definitely. I remember always hoping he was gonna be playing when we play them as he really is poor. So poor he got moved into midfield where he's done a decent job but not great. Good on the ball but shocking defender.

There's some fairly persistent paper talk that Barca are looking at Luiz.

Mata's an interesting case. He had a such a good season for the Chavs - their standout player by a country mile IMO - that I don't suppose anyone (including he) expected him to be in the shop window this summer, so goodness knows where he'll end up.

In some ways he's the perfect signing for them - can play CB, DM, great with the ball at his feet and a great passer. They do really need another Puyol rather than an Edmilson though.

And today's rumors:

Dutch Under-21 starlet Marco van Ginkel admits he is flattered by links to Chelsea.

Van Ginkel has emerged as one of Holland's best prospects and has played a starring role at the European Under-21 Championship thus far.

Chelsea have a long-term relationship with Vitesse, which would seemingly give them the upper-hand in any potential deal, and they are now said to be showing an interest in 20-year-old van Ginkel.

He told Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad: "I am not thinking about it [Chelsea interest] right now, but I am really flattered by their interest."

Shaarawy wants to stay at Milan

AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy has brushed off links with Manchester City by insisting he wants to stay at the San Siro.

Reports in Italy had claimed that City were lining up a £30million bid for the 20-year-old international.

However, El Shaarawy insists that he cannot see himself leaving Milan this summer - even though he is 'flattered' at City's reported interest.

"I don't think I will leave Milan," he told La Repubblica

"If City really wants me, it flatters me. But I want to stay here at AC Milan.
Sakho is available ... would be a great option to pursue imo.
According to Newcastle Evening Chronicle: 'Newcastle United transfer target Mamadou Sakho has told his advisers he wants more time to decide on his future.'

The PSG centre-half wants to see who will replace Carlo Ancelotti before he commits to a move elsewhere.

According to Sky Bet, Cesc Fabregas is 13/8 to join Manchester United this summer. He's 15/8 to join Arsenal.

Celtic midfield star Victor Wanyama admits there are 'talks' about his future, but he is currently concentrating on international duties.

Wanyama captained Kenya against Nigeria last week when they lost 1-0, and he remains in his homeland as they gear up for a World Cup qualifier with Malawi later this week.

The 21-year-old talked to Kenyan's National TV station NTV about his Celtic future as he is continually linked with a move to England.

"I still have contract with Celtic and I am their player, if anything comes up and it is good for me and the club, from there I will move on," he admitted.

Please no:

There was talk of West Ham making a move for Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony over the weekend.

The 24-year-old scored 31 goals in only 24 Eredivisie matches last season and would cost around £12m.

What ever happened to Eljiro Elia, the next big thing?
Weren't we supposed to replace Babel with that bag of crap?

I'm not - I think Luiz is a great (if somewhat eccentric) player.

Galatasaray chairman Unal Aysal has revealed that the Turkish champions have had a €7million bid for Nani rejected by Manchester United.

"We offered 7 million euros for him," Aysal told Milliyet. "But they didn't accept. We can't give more than this.

"We are not going to follow Nani anymore. We can't give more than 7 million euros for him. They want 10 million euros. Because of this he is not on our transfer list anymore."
