Everton fan glassed in throat after Merseyside derby

AN EVERTON fan glassed in the throat after the Merseyside derby today told of how he had escaped death by inches.

The 30-year-old had emergency surgery for his injuries after he and two relatives were attacked by a group of men outside the 12th Man pub – formerly the Salisbury Arms – on Walton Breck Road in Anfield.

The victim told the ECHO: “It was just to the left of my Adam’s apple and they said if it had been across my throat I wouldn’t be here today, I’d be dead.â€

The attack happened just three hours after the match finished in a 2 – 2 draw just 100 yards down the road.

The Everton fan from Walton was in the pub when a group of trouble-makers turned up outside.

He went out on the street to bring his six-year-old nephew, who was waiting outside with his mum, back into safety. But when he went outside with the boy’s dad and another uncle, the three were subjected to a vicious attack as the boy cowered in a doorway.

He added: “I’ve got seven stitches in my neck and throat and three under my chin. I just wanted to get my nephew inside to where he’d be safe and that’s what I did when I got up.â€

Frightened customers, along with the boy’s mum, waited in the pub as the boy was carried back inside by his blood spattered uncle who had been gashed in the throat.

The traumatised child had seen his 34-year-old dad beaten to the floor, was covered in his uncle’s blood and had watched his other 22-year-old uncle battered with a bottle and pool cue.

His dad, a Liverpool FC fan who has a back condition that makes it difficult for him to walk, was left with bruises to his head and slashes to his hands.

The boy’s other uncle, an Everton supporter, believes the thugs may have attacked them on the mistaken belief they were Liverpool fans, as the pub is normally frequented by Reds.

He told the ECHO: “They got me with the bottle first and then they got me with the pool cue. The bottle cut my head open and then I got hit by the pool cue. I’ve got five stitches in the left side of my head.

It was only when I shouted ‘I’m a Blue’ that they stopped.â€

Today Merseyside police confirmed that officers were investigating the incident and appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said: “All three victims were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

“The 22 and 32-year-old have since been discharged after having their injuries stitched. The 30-year-old, who is from the Anfield/Walton area is currently in hospital recovering from surgery to a neck wound.â€

Detectives investigating the assaulting are appealing for anyone with information to call St Anne Street CID on 0151 777 4064 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

I think its to do with the rumours that was flying around, about an Evertonian being killed by a gang of Liverpool fans.

We now know an Evertonian did get attacked, but by a gang of hoodies and possibly not football related at all.

Then these guys possibly alcohol fueled and building up a red mist about one of thiers being killed, decided to go and 'do some reds', and almost make what they though happened come true, by thier own hands.

You can't beat the 'friendly derby'.
The friendly derby died when all the blue mongs blamed us for Thatcher banning all English teams going into Europe, they think they would be top of the tree now, because they would have gone on and become giants in Europe after winning the European Cup, despite not winning ANYTHING domestically that season.

I have pointed out to these loons, that Forest won the European Cup twice and look where they are now, but they can't grasp reality, and like to think they would be absoloute giants now.

That is where the bitterness grew from, and why the friendly derby died a death

So, to paraphrase:

They're thick

Not all of them, but quite a few, and the age range is 20 - 50 because their dads have been filling them with shit for so long.

I'm not sure if that's the pub I passed after the game.

They were shouting 'Mohammad Ali' at me when I passed, which I found flattering, then strange, then disappointing.

Dont much like the idea of looking like him now. 🙁

Its a compliment!

Mohammad Ali was voted the sexiest man alive in his youth ( if your young )

If you was scared and shaking, they referred to him now and it was an insult though 😉

Thatcher didn't ban all English teams from Europe - it was UEFA.

Are Forrest the exception or the rule?

Disgusting.
The lot shot should be hung.

On a side note, Lee (Pete's cousin) is a blue and very balanced in his views.

According to this Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heysel_Stadium_disaster Thatcher did put pressure on the FA to withdraw English clubs from Europe, but UEFA came up with their own ban shortly afterwards. They certainly didn't need any encouragement from Thatcher.
Yup, but there's a good chance we'd have been the only ones banned.

Once Thatcher commented UEFA happily extended it to everybody.

But then UEFA are a bunch of spiteful cunts who love to blame Liverpool for their own fuckups so no surprise there.
