No Split-Loyalties For Assaidi

Moroccan ace firmly hoping for a Stoke victory on Sunday...
OUSSAMA ASSAIDI insists there will be no split-loyalties at the Britannia Stadium this weekend when Stoke City play host to his parent club Liverpool in front of the live television cameras.
The Moroccan international isn’t eligible to feature in Sunday’s game because of Premier League rules, but admits that he will be in attendance at the game giving his full backing to his current teammates.
The side have enjoyed a good start to 2014, registering a 2-1 FA Cup triumph against Championship pace-setters Leicester City, on the back of a 1-1 draw with Champions League chasing Everton.
“I would love to be involved in the game, but through rules and regulations that isn’t possible unfortunately,” he told stokecityfc.com.
“There is nothing I can do about it, apart from sit on the sidelines and cheer my teammates on, which is what I will be doing on Sunday.
“I want Stoke City to win the game of course, because this is where I am playing my football at the moment, and for as long as I am here I will want us to win every game we play.
“We have started the year well – maybe we are still disappointed not to have won the game against Everton, but a point wasn’t bad.”
He added: “Hopefully, the lads can build upon that game, and the win against Leicester, and take the points from the Liverpool game which would set us up nicely for the rest of the season.”
The winger has rediscovered the form that he showed at Heerenveen prior to his move to Anfield in 2012 in recent weeks, putting in a series of superb displays for Mark Hughes’ side on the left hand side of midfield.
Assaidi paid tribute to the Welshman for the role he has played in helping him to establish himself as one of the most creative and potent attackers in the first team squad.
“A player like me needs to feed off the confidence of the coach,” he added.
“He must trust me, and he must give me time on the pitch. I need time to do what I feel I am good at, which is taking defenders on, putting balls into the box and scoring goals as well.
“Mark has been fantastic with me, because he always tells me what to do, he shows me how hard I need to work to track back and defend, which I like to do, but he also likes me to go forward and try to create things too.
“I feel that he and his staff have belief in me and that makes me feel very good and it allows me to express myself on the pitch and bring out the quality that I know I have.”
