What's being missed in all the discussions of Sterling's relationship with Rodgers and the fans and the club is his relationship with his teammates. I know some players are pragmatic enough to regard all transfer talk as impersonal business, but to constantly hear that one player doesn't consider the rest of them good enough to realise his ambitions has got to have a negative effect. It was therefore probably significant that Sterling was conspicuous by his absence at the party the squad had for Coutinho a couple of days ago. It's his teammates who know better than anyone that he's as responsible as any of them for this dire season.

As well as hoping to keep Sterling for one more year, it is believed they would prefer to sell the England international to an overseas club should he go.
Sterling, it is understood, would prefer to remain in England and is hoping that either Chelsea or Arsenal will bid for him.
Both Manchester clubs, United and City, are believed to have already registered their interest in Sterling, with City the likeliest to bid a sum close to what is perceived to be the asking price. Sterling does not represent a priority for United, it seems.
As transpired with the Suarez case, Liverpool's owners, the Fenway Sports Group, are determined to sell on their terms and are willing to force an unhappy player to stay.
