Sterling to Man City.. Maybe Arsenal..

A journalist described selling Sterling as "the nuclear option" the other month and that remains the case in my view.

We will struggle to replace him and improve with the funds we get so there is really no incentive to sell him... unless the contract situation really is so bad that we feel like we have no choice. Still, I'd be inclined to play hardball and keep him for two years on his low contract.

Struggle to replace what exactly? How many has he got this season goals or assists wise? He is still far too raw to be considered a 50M man, and if we could get that for him, given his vocal efforts this season... Sell sell sell

13 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

How many other players in the squad do we have that have reached those sort of figures?

We need to be adding to that rather than trying to replace it on top of everything else.

Sterling is our top scorer in the league with 7 and second in the assists chart behind Henderson.

The classic mistake. Nobodies buying this seasons performance.

Their buying the future of someone who did that at age 20.

I'd imagine it's a short list of wingers that have had a year like that

They must have been to a fairground and employed a Mystic then, I'd imagine.

Raheem Sterling is left to count the cost as Brendan Rodgers ups ante

Raheem Sterling will forfeit millions of pounds in lost wages if his contract stand-off with Liverpool continues into next season after Brendan Rodgers insisted that the forward will not leave under any circumstances this summer.

In a further indication of Liverpool’s hardline stance over Sterling, Rodgers insisted that the 20-year-old will be kept to the terms of his contract if a new deal cannot be agreed. Sterling earns £35,000 per week and has rejected a new contract that would increase his weekly salary to £100,000, meaning that he is losing £260,000 for every month that passes without an agreement being reached.

Should the contract wrangle continue for all of next season, Sterling’s financial losses would reach almost £4 million given that he would remain one of the lowest-paid players in Liverpool’s first-team squad on a salary worth almost £100,000 per week less than Daniel Sturridge is paid.

With Liverpool maintaining that they will not consider offers for the England forward even if a transfer request is lodged, Sterling must decide whether to sign a new deal on significantly improved terms or see out the penultimate year of his present agreement with a view to leaving next summer.

“We’ve made [our stance] clear from the beginning and the owners are very much supportive of that,” Rodgers said. “Raheem won’t be going anywhere this summer, even if there’s not a deal agreed. We’re still pretty relaxed on it.”

Liverpool would prefer to reach an agreement with Sterling and Aidy Ward, his agent. Rodgers remains hopeful that the pair can be convinced that there is no better place for him at this stage.

“It’s one where the club will meet up again with Raheem’s representatives and we’ll reinforce the message,” the Liverpool manager said. “Everyone wants to win trophies, everyone wants to play in the big competitions, but it’s also important that you have the opportunity to do that. So we’ll just be reinforcing our stance that this is the best club for him at this moment, where he’s got the opportunity to play and to fight and be competitive.”

You dont need a Mystic to compile a list of players who've done similar at the same age, seen how they're careers panned out subsequently. Then using that as the scale of outcomes compare we know about Sterling tobwhats known about those players to make an estimate of what the range of likely outcomes are for Sterling.

You just need to do some research, some objective analysis and you can make sensible judgments.

United could have paid huge money buying Falcao's stats, they didn't they clearly saw the record of star strikers arriving in the most physical league in the latter third of their career wasnt great and instead only took him on loan

I've used Eden Hazard's fee as comparison for current and future value. It's a classic mistake not to compare and contrast similarity.

Robben, Hazard, Ronaldo did similarly at age 20.

That's great company. But I'm sure some average ones did it too.

When you have a fuller list you can gauge realistic expectations for Sterling.

Or that we are actually prepared to let him run his contract down.

His agent has fucked this up imo. He's treating it like we have no power at all, when we have some at least.

We can afford to have him stay, save about 5 million in wages (135k he wants minus the 35k he's on) & take a calculated risk that his improvement will either coincede with ours so he's willing to stay, or up his value enough to negate any loss of potential transfer fee sue to him then being in the last year of his contract.

I think his agent is being niave or shortsighted due to his need to make a splash setting out on his own. If sterling were to sign on 100k a week & carry on improving its likely he'll still get a huge money move next summer & the transfer fee would be higher due to the lengthier contract in place.

It all depends if we could get in a decent replacement. Obviously there's the Depay link, and we were linked to Felipe Anderson at Lazio as well. They both look to be in the same sort of category and also have far better end product right now. If you could make that sort of trade with a £25-30m profit I'd do it unhesitatingly.

I like Sterling but £50m *as compared with what similar foreign players are being touted at* looks pretty good business to me. There's also the matter of us perhaps being able to cash in on City's desperation to sign young English talent.

Another point to bear in mind is that with his shisha pipes, laughing gas and reproductive urges, Sterling is a potential embarrassment to the club. If he were willing to settle for a reasonable wage and commit himself to improving his game, you would be prepared to take the risk.

We'd be crazy to turn down 50m. Only city would be so stupid to offer that amount and we would be crazy to say no.

The best bit is he wont improve at city, he'll just stagnate I reckon. City aren't exactly great at nuturing young talent. Win win for us.

We'll sell him if a decent offer comes in for him. Selling him Borini and Balotelli could give us 80 million plus. We buy Depay, decent striker, and a replacement for Gerrard, our outlay could then only be like £20m.

Getting 4 for Borini and 8 for Balotelli would be amazing.
