So, if he's called in sick, I'd give him a written warning.

He's already had at least one verbal wanting (the interview) & one written (following the shisha thing).

One more & they can legally sack him.

That'd be funny.

Didn't chelsea sack Mutu and then try and claim back 10's of millions from his future wages? Not sure if they did ever get any cash back

Raheem Sterling failed to attend training this morning after phoning in sick. Liverpool are refusing to comment on his absence.

[Sorry for posting twitter news. But it does seem relevant]

Rodgers will go full blown Ed Rooney on this and sneak over to Sterling's house to catch him playing hookie.

^^^ Pretty much the worst example of HRM I've ever seen.

I think Ward's pushing for City, not Sterling. Sterling wants to go to London. He put his house up for sale before the end of last season because he was so keen to leave the north. But as the London clubs haven't really bitten, Ward's pushed him into a corner. Pellegrini strikes me as an unlikely manager to form any bond with the player. He'll give him a tightly-constrained role in the team and if he doesn't do well he'll discover just how cold and aloof a boss can be.

It's a good point.

Leaving Liverpool for Manchester? Not much of an upgrade is it...
Leaving our side for theirs? Sure they're better than us, but they've got dicked every year in the Champions League, they've got an ageing side, and they're a long way behind Chelsea. Whats the point of all this kerfuffle and hatred for that? Sure if you want to go to Barcelona, but fucking Manchester City? Why bother.
Leaving our Manager for theirs? Much of a muchness really. I don't mind Pellegrini, but he's not gonna be there in 12 months is he, and surely Sterling knows that.
Money? Maybe, but is that it.

As you say, he's being badly advised. You just know he'll bang on in a few years time in some half-baked autobiography about how "if he had his time over again etc etc..."

Naturally, this is Ward's big chance of a massive payday, he'll push Sterling wherever his largest cheque will come from regardless of his client's wishes.

The club normally send a doctor round to check on players calling in sick

Do we even have a doctor anymore? Zaf Iqbal has just joined Palace. I nominate we send Graham round for the house call. Waits for someone to post a picture of Graham's head photoshopped onto a doctor

I guess so, but it's also the deal that's going to launch his own agency. He'll no doubt think that it will show people he gets results, but I can't be alone in thinking it's about as appealing a demonstration of professional competence as that plastic surgeon who took selfies of himself with the fast-expiring Joan Rivers.

It doesn't look like City are really serious. If they were they'd have stumped up by now. They're leaving their prospect high and dry which is no doubt why Sterling's gone to foot stamping again. Stress can make you unwell.

Ha. I knew it wasn't right. I always had a HR officer come in & do all that shit so the union had someone else to argue with instead of me when they challenged it, as they always did.

They can sack him but hold his registration, so effectively he wouldn't be free, not for the 2 years still left on his contract.
I thought that option was ruled out? I was sure fifa (yeah, I know) put something in place to stop just that.

Chelsea held his registration, Mutu basically fucked off on a free to some other Italian club and then he joined Juve however Chelsea took him to CAS and won and personally sued him. Not sure if they got any fees back from him.

It would be Bosman Mark 2.

We can't sack him then stop him playing.

We could however pay his wages for two years and never play him, within the rules and immune from challenge

The little twerp should hand in transfer request if he so desperate to leave.

Which he wont, as he will loose he bonus.

And it doesn't actually do anything anyway. The club don't have to do anything whether he does or doesn't hand in transfer request.

We should have him checked by a doctor (I'm sure Mac would go round on the clubs behalf), & then fine him a months wages for lying.

They won because he breached his contract for taking cocaine. Not because he played for someone else - because Chelsea had terminated the contract by that point.
