He could have done, but he'd have been wrong, as pretty much everyone was saying the same when Suarez was throwing his tantrum. Maybe if Sterling stays and scores near 40 goals, leaving for £70million next summer, we'll love him too, but until that happens we'll just resent him, just like we were resenting Suarez when he gave that interview. No hypocrisy here, quite the opposite.
Ward is obviously acting for City and is probably on a tiered bonus to get the fee as low as possible. He might not try as hard as Suarez did but that would ultimately be self defeating as it would surely affect his England prospects. Hodgson hinted at it earlier in the summer by saying he's got no problem with playing him but the situation needed resolving.
All it takes is for the likes of Ibe or Redmond to start the season well and Sterling's place for England could be under threat.
