Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

I don't accept we'd automatically be strengthening them.

IMO it's just as likely we'd be weakening them, relative to us.

They'll be adding a player to their squad. Unless he turns up with explosives strapped to his spindly little body he's not going to make them weaker.

I'd take £45M plus add ons, too. I hope this is completed sooner rather than later so we can reinvest and get the squad settled before the campaign.

What exactly are the add-ons you think we'd be offered? 'X amount more if he should score 25 goals in his first season'? 'X amount more should he win the Ballon d'Or in his first season'?? 'X amount more if he should help us win the treble'??

Add-ons have a good-ish chance of actually kicking in if, say, the deal for a 15 year old promises more cash if he goes on to play for the first team, wins an international cap, etc. You're buying potential, gambling a little, and the add-ons are a reward to the selling club if the potential is realised.

You don't actually get 99% of add-ons when you're selling an established first team player. The buying club just takes the piss by promising extra for targets they are either pretty sure won't happen (e.g. Sterling suddenly scoring masses of goals) or can be avoided (e.g. first team starts - clubs are very adept of 'resting' players precisely to avoid such targets). Forget about add-ons!!!!!

Fuck addons. The only addon we should even consider is x% of any next transfer. Apart from that, all cash, upfront, as they've got mountains of it.

Yeah but the real alternative is Sterling or whoever else they buy for £50m.

We can't change them spending a fortune this summer - we might be able to help them waste some of it, though.

Serious add-ons are pretty easy, they don't even have to be directly Sterling related .... if City win the PL, win a cup, make the Cl ¼ , ½, final, win it etc. etc. and don't even have to tie it to number of Sterling appearances, the fact he's playing for them is enough.

I'm not even sure those would be legitimate in a player's contract. I'm pretty sure they have to be tied to the individual's participation, e,g. 'So much more if we win the title and Sterling starts x number of games'. I don't think the lawyers would put up with anything that commits the club to paying another if they win a trophy even if the player gets crocked on the first day of the season, or gets a Suarez-style suspension, etc etc.

Nothing surprises me. The little shit. Should tell him to fuck off, take him and make him train alone until city offer the money. What a twat

Apparently he's asked to be 'left out of pre-season plans'.

The odious little prick is so fucking thick. This suggests he still thinks he has the whip hand. What a fucking tool - we made Suarez train on his own so why would we start pandering to his ridiculous demands. He's going to be vilified everywhere next season. Ward needs to start thinking about the decline in his commercial value thanks to his "advice".

I don't think we will lose that much. As I said yesterday, the tribunal rulings in the past have taken account of the most recent bids for the player and other public valuations. If a club bids over £40m for him, it can hardly then tell a tribunal it values him as half that. Besides which, if City don't get him now, I'd expect us to probably do a deal with a London club in January that will suit both of us fine. City can feck off.

Is the compensation not supposed to be for "training" and not linked to a players market value that much.

I might be wrong, but i think the record fee authorised by a tribunal is the £6m Chelsea paid for Sturridge - we'll probably set a new record with Ings, but realistically, I don't think we'll get more than about £10m for sterling at tribunal.
