Oh and Allen should have had an assist. Henderson really needs to take some extra shooting classes. That shuffle pass from Allen was fantastic and I don't think many would've been able to pull that off with precision in one touch. Too bad Henderson squandered the chance.

Just needed to mention that Johnson deserves a bit more praise after his performance today.
Was probably our most consistent player on the pitch. Played well in both halves.

We didn't perform well today but we need these types of wins, on another day we might have lost.

There's no way we would have won that game last season. Massive kudos to Brendan and the players. Bring on United.

Yes, I wondered if he was suffering from a bug, I've never seen him bend down and catch his breath so many times in a game. Yet still he was often inspired.

Be nice if he didnt play for Uruguay but at least their match is in europe. Then we have nice long break don't we?

Good timing.

What? I can't possibly disagree more. Faffed about unnessarily, never took the simple option. Weak in the tackle, passing shite, work rate low.

This is Glen Johnson. Bang fucking average. Fuck him right off.

Oh and I thought Southampton's closing down was magnificent throughout the whole 90 mins.

Thought they slacked off a bit after our second, but yeah, I was impressed by them. Their size advantage helped as well IMO - it felt like their mids all seemed to look over our short mids (Gerrard aside). Their ball movement and player mobility was very good too; bunch of nice moves that didn't pay off for them, luckily for us.

A delightful win at one of the toughest grounds this season, Chelsea squeaked past them if I remember around Chrimbo and you can easily see why, they press so well. IF they could get a really decent striker in they would be a very dangerous side. We rode our luck in the first half but Sterlings pace really changed it for us and made us look far more dangerous... A really really big win for us that... made up...

After the game finished I was delighted to see that the last hour of the godfather is on telly here so having watched that thought nice evenings entertainment.... It's 3 am... Godfather part 2 after the break!! AAAAAAAAAHHH!!

Ming was excellent. Thought his distribution was good aswell. Match winning save in the first half.

Johnson was alright. He's been out for a while and got better as the game progressed but some of his tactical decisions were poor. Ran himself into trouble on several occasions.

@Realaldo474: Woulda liked Daniel sturridge to have got to my 10 game league goals record but he's done brilliant getting to 8 he'll get another chance.

Respect Aldo

Lellana, Sturridge, Henderson and sterling are going to have good world cups.

It's nice to have a manager who has actually corrected problems from previous games. Mignolet has worked on coming off his line. Agger and Skrtel have worked on not playing like morons. Suarez and Sturridge have worked on trying to pass it to each other. Sterling has worked on a new position. Allen has regained his professional pride.

Usually you just hear managers flap their gums about working harder and trying to put things right the next week, only for them to make the same exact fucking mistakes again and again. Rodgers is pretty rare as a manager who actually does tangible and useful work with the players during the week.

And I couldn't disagree with you more either. Modo was spot on. Your personal bias against Johnson is off the charts.

Glen was ponderous at times but put in a good shift.

Would love if he would get rid and not indulgently hold onto the ball but he did fine.

Wow. You watched a different match to me.

Johnson and Flanagan were both pretty good. With no wingers helping them, and Gerrard is simply not going to run around covering for two cunts who should be kneeling before him, so they were there to be fucked by Southampton. However, they both coped really well in the circumstances.
