Is it a fucking ethos to deify Gerrard as some footballing god?
Every commentator seems to be raving about how amazing he is in this re-invented role; and how the only thing he lacks for that position is the athleticism to track players and make bone-crunching tackles.
As if the top DMs in the world ever had athleticism. Makelele, Hamann, Deschamps, Petit, Alonso, Redondo, Helguera - who the fuck was athletic. Gerrard even today has more athleticism than any of these players ever had.
He doesn't have even a quarter of the positional sense they had to play the DM position though.

Its certainly not the defences fault IMHO... we are carrying 2 players in midfield at the moment...

Agree, Sterling always gives his all, Coutinho can sometimes be lacking in that department. Still, let's hope he gives us a wonder pass...
