Solanke - Liverpool striker?

It isn't knee-jerk with Solanke. He's shown nothing in 23 appearances.
I get your point, and I agree with it even though I like solanke. He should have done more in the time he's had.

I think it's disingenuous to keep saying 23 appearances.

Probably about 20 of them were 3 minutes at the end of games

Yeah, that's fair enough. But in that time, he's hasn't even looked capable of controlling a football.

I saw positives in players like Origi, who probably won't be good enough, but it at least made me think we had something to work with.

With Solanke, I feel that he's got to where he has at youth level because he's physically more developed than other kids his age. There's no technique there. Physique alone won't cut it at first team level.

23 appearances makes it sound like he's played loads.

Since the last Everton game in January, he's played the following:

89th minute sub against Huddersfield
87th minute sub against West Ham
84th minute sub against United
71st minute sub against City

What's that? Like a total of about 30 minutes of football in three months? I wonder why he wasn't fucking amazing yesterday?

I think he has the tools to become a top striker - he's struggled to improve here but judging him on appearances which rarely included more than 10 minutes is harsh.

Will he become a top striker? I dunno - he needs a loan next year at a top championship team or a premier league team to play week in, week out. That will tell us more ...

I'm not asking him to be amazing. Just, you know, control a football.

If that happens, I don't think he'll progress with us. We don't have a great record with returning loanees.

Yeah, I'm thinking that too.

I still believe (based on absolutely nothing), klopp is training him to play differently, so he's still learning

Obviously that doesn't excuse rapey touches, but still

I have the utmost faith in Klopp, so there is that. If he sees something in Solanke, then maybe there's something there. But I can't imagine he will get the opportunities next season that he has this. Klopp's not afraid to cut someone who is underperforming loose, either.

Well, are we supposed to wait another 23 appearances, in which he probably still won't have scored or learnt how to control a ball?

Ideally wait until he gets to double figures of starts I'd say.

He isnt a very good player. Like he will end up carving out a decent Shane Long type career around the mid to lower prem teams.

He doesnt need any more starts to see that he isnt a very good player and thats the be all and end all for me.
Origi was not very good either.

I just want him to be able to control a ball. I'm not expecting Torres debut season wonder goals. I just some kind of hint of his potential. I see literally nothing redeeming about his game.

I do. He missed a decent headed chance early doors and then snatched at one from a few yards out that the keeper did well to save. I'd be well more pissed off if he hadn't got into the space in the first place. I'm not saying he'll be a world beater but I don't get where you're coming from on this. He held his own, he's very young, he's not match fit.

Maybe.
But at the age Solanke is now Torres had scored 50 odd goals for Atletico Madrid.

Solanke has scored a handful for Vitesse.

If he was gonna be any good he would still be at Chelsea or on loan somewhere.

Like I said he will have an ok career. Hes never going to become a Liverpool first team player.

At athletico, at the time they were shit. Torres was always gonna get games fucking loads of games. His scoring rate was shite initially too

Then he fucked off and aguero got games.

Solanke was never going to oust Costa or morata.

I wish there was one of those compilations of all his touches from Saturday, but I doubt anyone would bother.

Comparing their relative situations isn't.

How the fuck is any kid who plays up front meant to break into that front three right now? If Torres was 19 and sat on that bench he'd be coming on with three minutes to go.

I think Origi is a more suitable comparison, and we were all confused why we weren't more excited by him, weren't we?

We'll see, I guess, won't we?

I'll go back to Origi, a young player we gave a chance to and was deemed not good enough.

I was actually a bit of a fan of Divock. He was good technically, athletic, had a great physique and power. The mental aspects of the game is where he was found wanting.

Now, Solanke, doesn't have any of the attributes Origi had at his age, except maybe size? He has nothing else. I don't see how people can write one off and not the other.

Origi was

a) lucky that his competition was Benteke and no-one else. Sturridge was fucked.
b) unlucky that he got fucked by that Everton twat

But if he wouldn't have got injured he could probs have been dead good.
